000000001playoffs.jpgWe hadn’t really sat down and had an old-fashioned day of sports-watching for a while (read: a few weeks), so Sunday was that day. We have to confess, for as much as the regular-season NBA stinks, the playoffs are good times. In Game 1s, Denver upended San Antonio, but the real shocker was Golden State taking out No. 1 seeded Dallas. And, of course, the NHL playoffs are always top-notch (love the East games. Playoffs? They actually get to skate and move the puck over there. Wacky!). We also picked a fantastic time to check out a Twins game start to finish. The bats were really sizzling yesterday. Whoever took the “over” on Nick Punto head-first dives into first base just inched closer to payday. Bert Blyleven called Punto’s first-inning plunge a “Good head-first slide.” Hmm. He might need to start that take over. Oh, it’s live?

Jon passes along another entrant in the mustache competition: Bill Johnson, who pitches for the white-hot Gophers baseball team. There’s a certain T-shirt available for purchase that would be perfect for him.

We discovered this on Saturday night and we can’t stop playing with it. Get your minds out of the gutter and click this link if you didn’t already see it via Bill Simmons at the four-letter word.

And finally, the Red Sox made a winner out of an extremely shaky Dice-K (7 IP, 6 ER) by clubbing four consecutive home runs in the third inning and rallying for three more runs in the seventh on Mike Lowell’s second HR of the game. The Sox swept the Yankees, but Matsuzaka is now 2-2 with a 4.00 ERA. Somewhere, Lizzy is holding Theo Epstein while he gently weeps. Let’s hope he kept the receipt.
