Wednesday (Adv. in Babysitting) edition: Wha’ happened?
Posted on May 9th, 2007 – 8:24 AMBy Michael Rand
So we have to admit: before Monday, we had never seen “Adventures in Babysitting.” The Future Mrs. RandBall insisted, and we called it research for the Elisabeth Shue interview. Tuesday was also notable for two more reasons: 1) You can now see a few clips of our former cable access show “Purple Funk” on Youtube, thanks to the kind help of a friend. We picked the episode at random, and the clip (in three parts) we put up is an “interview” with former Packers coach Mike Sherman. You can see the clips here, and here, and then here. Dear lord, those were the days. 2) We were offered a last-minute chance to go see Elvis Costello at Myth in Maplewood last night. We’d never seen Mr. Costello live, but we came away with two impressions: He set the record for least stage banter ever, and if we had paid for the ticket we would have been pretty upset. That was not a $45 show. Myth — where we also had never been — is nice enough, in a Vegas club meets First Avenue in a cave sort of way. Excellent bathrooms. Bad beer selection. Pretty good layout. Too far away for city kids like us, but we suppose a good idea for the northern and eastern suburban dwellers like, well, not us. And now the longest intro in RandBall history is over.
“There you are. One stitch. All better”: Phoenix avoided disaster with a rout of San Antonio in the hot and sweaty desert to even the series 1-1. Steve Nash, playing with a bandaged nose — we were hoping for the Hannibal Lecter mask, but oh well — had 20 points and 16 assists.
“Nobody leaves this place without singing the blues”: Justin Morneau’s walkoff blast capped a big rally and gave the Twins a 7-4 victory they desperately needed over Chicago. Torii Hunter, meanwhile, is almost 40 percent of the way to Joe DiMaggio.
“Don’t [redacted] with the babysitter”: George Mitchell is getting serious about this steroid probe. You know, eventually.
