0000000000001beckham.jpgNot to duplicate the work we’ve done for the Newspaper of the Twin Cities, but we were called away from RandBallin’ duties yesterday to write about how David Beckham and the L.A. Galaxy will be here for a match on October 10. The official news conference is at 10 a.m. today, but it is confirmed that Beckham will play here, barring any unforeseen circumstances (you know, like a leg injury or a bear attack). Maybe we’ve been around soccer lovers too much in the past 24 hours, but we have to agree this is a pretty big deal. Anyone else have thoughts? SuperRookie, care to address the $40 lowest ticket price?

Not sure how we didn’t address this story yesterday, but Clinton Portis weighing in on the Michael Vick dogfighting story had to be one of the craziest sequences ever. It was almost as if reporters were trying to help him not say anything else stupid. “If that’s what he wants to do, do it. I think people should mind their business.” When told that dog fighting is a felony, Portis replied, “It can’t be too bad of a crime.” We love Clinton Portis and all his crazy costumes, but this is just another example of the different world athletes live in.

First Dennys. Now Perkins. The Breakfast Lefties are dropping like flies. Good thing they don’t have Mike Venafro anymore. The Twins are going to have a hard time finding another lefty for the bullpen at this point in the season. Especially if his name is International House of Pancakes Johnson. (Make your own Boof Bonser and Carlos Silva jokes if you must).

LeBron James scored 10 points, and that’s all you need to know. Yeah, his 10th assist (to go with 10 rebounds) could have led to Donyell Marshall’s game-winning three, but Marshall missed the shot. Guess he’s no John Paxson. Michael Jordan never scored 10 points in an Eastern Conference final. We don’t have statistical proof. We just know. Aside: look at Jordan’s year-by-year earnings (scroll to very bottom of page). He never made more than $4 million in a season except for 97 and 98, when he made more than $30 million. A very strange arc.
