0000000000001nostalgia.jpgBetter late than never, right? Roughkat pleads for his COW reprieve, and we suppose a sick day is a good enough reason. He brings copious links and a standing invitation right about now:

First off, I apologize for the late post. I was MIA yesterday. My bread and butter is movie one-liners, and YouTube clips. So I’ll stick to that.

What is it about the nostalgic effect? Our memories always make everything seem bigger and better. I’ve repressed most of the negative memories. But the good stuff? We put it on a pedestal. Just think of the recent most commented posts.

1) Best baseball cards of the 80s.
2) Best Nintendo sports games.
3) Links to all sorts of old music videos.
4) Anything involving the Big Lebowski.
5) Best sports movies. [Mind the language on 4+5, obviously]

I have a couple of conclusions from this. First, Chatterbox needs to be a monthly event. Different game every month. Perhaps, the winner from one month chooses the next game. Losers sing karaoke.

Second, nothing in the present is as good as our memory of the past. Every year, championship teams are ranked against the great ones of the past. Old movies are remade. Any good movie of the recent past has a sequel. Socrates said, “The only true wisdom consists of knowing you know nothing.” That’s me, dude! I don’t know who the Timberwolves should take in the next draft. I don’t know if T-Jack will be the QB of the future. I don’t know if the Twins pitching will come around. But I like to think that all these things will work out and one day, hopefully soon, I’ll be watching all the aforementioned teams cruising through the playoffs once again. It gets annoying after a while to hear Bill Simmons constantly talking about the Patriots, Red Sox and Celtics. But we do the same thing. I can’t wait to have the same feelings I once had for this or this or this or this or this. It’s like in golf when you occasionally have a good shot, it keeps you coming back.

Chatterbox. Wednesday. 8pm. Any baseball game. See you there.
