Friday edition: LeBron happened
Posted on June 1st, 2007 – 10:11 AMBy Michael Rand
We’ll try to keep this somewhat brief, as there is a ton to get to today and we’ve already wasted precious time this morning tending to our cardiovascular fitness. We don’t know if you heard us counting, but we’ve done well over 1,000. That said, all anyone wants to talk about today is LeBron and the ridiculous 48 points he dropped last night in a double OT victory over the Pistons. He scored the final 25 points for Cleveland. Ri-[redacted]-diculous. As Stu notes, “Isn’t it nice when the guy Nike and ESPN tell you you’re supposed to venerate does something venerable.” But here’s our only quibble with the chatter: people are calling it a defining moment, and to an extent it is. For us, though, you know what the defining moment will be? Game 6. Because right now, King James hasn’t won a thing. And if he thinks he can ride the coattails of his brilliance and mail in a 21-point game — and there’s nothing in his history that suggests he isn’t capable of such a thing — we will know that he hasn’t arrived yet and he will also find himself back in Detroit for a Game 7. This is not to say his Game 5 wasn’t a thing of beauty. But let’s see that level of intensity again in Game 6. Let’s see him bring it every night. And let’s hold off on the coming out party for at least 48 more hours.
We have the COW post, podcast, China blog, so much more, all locked and loaded. What do you think of LeBron? More importantly, what do you think of this mystery link? It’s Friday. Everybody hug.
