The price of genius: three games

That’s Phillip Wellman, the manager for the Braves’ Class AA affiliate. You probably don’t recognize him because in that picture he’s not slithering along the ground, soldier-style, in order to use a resin bag as a faux grenade. Ah, but the internet sensation — he has to rival Allison Stokke as the top tuber of the past week — is paying the price for his Friday outburst. Wellman has been suspended three games by the Braves. Our guess: the original suspension was 10 games, and seven were knocked off for sheer hilarity. Either that, or everyone in the organization is just plain afraid of him and let him pick his punishment. When he said, “30 days in the hole,” they said, “Hey Phillip, how about three games instead?”
