Monday edition: Wha’ happened?

It’s just a matter of time now. There is virtually no chance Cleveland can defeat San Antonio four times before the Spurs win twice more. Not with a team that shows no sense of urgency or cohesiveness until the fourth quarter. Not with a team that has Sasha Pavlovic and a hobbled Larry Hughes as its starting backcourt. And not with a superstar still raw enough to shoot an air ball on a free throw in a championship series. If San Antonio wins Tuesday, it’s over in four. If Cleveland wins Tuesday, it’s over in five. It’s that simple.
We went to Sunday’s Twins game in civilian clothes (i.e. not in the press box). We had a perfect view down the first base line, and frankly we’re not sure why Dmitri Young’s first inning upper deck blast was overruled from a two-run home run to a long foul ball. It could have gone either way, and the Twins are terribly lucky that it was overruled. Otherwise they might have been swept by the Nats — a team which, by the way, is 17-12 since May 9 while the Twins are 13-15 in that same span. Watching Boof Bonser pitch is like eating melted ice cream. You know there’s good stuff in there, but it’s sloppy by the time you get to it. Um, yeah. On the bright side, we filled out an All-Star ballot. We’re not giving away any secrets, but one member of our party voted for Michael Barrett as the NL catcher specifically because he punched A.J. Pierzynski last year. Now that’s hate.
Quickly: Oh, Chad Johnson. Beating a live horse. A better race, in our minds: Chad Johnson against any convicted Bengals player with police sirens blaring in the background. Now that would be fun. … If you missed Mark Craig’s Sunday story on Orlando Thomas and his battle against ALS, well, shame on you. Get to it right now. … Nothing says the NHL like a Stanley Cup party in a California parking lot with Gov. Steroids! … And, of course, mystery link! This one’s from Stu, whose songs from the weekend were held for this magic moment. “I had a dream. I had an awesome dream.” The man is a poet.
