The Internets: Scottie Pippen and farm subsidies

Hat tip to Darren Rovell and his SportsBiz blog at CNBC.com. Seriously, if you like interesting stories about sports and money, you should be reading this thing often. He was kind enough to e-mail a link we missed, and it was a beauty: From 2003-2005, Pippen earned $78,945 in government checks for land he controls in Arkansas. That’s according to information that will be available tomorrow from the Environmental Working Group, a public interest group that is seeking a better distribution of farm subsidies.
Robot baseball? Our tipster suggests we use this for our next RandBall video game get-together. We like it. Speaking of which: We have it on good authority that the Chatterbox would love to have us for a monthly gathering if we can do it on a Monday. They’ll even do something special for us. We just had the RBI Baseball extravaganza, and July looks pretty terrible schedule-wise, but what about starting this in August?
The entire blogosphere was on top of this yesterday, but we were just plain lazy. But it did bring to mind the waiver or some such thing we think we signed a few months ago promising not to live-blog the NCAA wrestling championships when we were there. Yes, we’re not making that up. And we got around it by offering updates to anyone who cared (bpar) in the comments.
