Guest post: Ryan P. and his strange friend

If you’re sad that it’s July 5 and you’re inside, perhaps Ryan P. can cheer you up. Ryan?
Whether or not KG is traded this summer (if he hasn’t been dealt by the time this has been posted), it makes me wonder how many will officially disown MP109 for good. My guess is a lot. If you’re looking for a new favorite team, I can help you by using criteria that my friend has used in picking his favorite teams. My buddy Cameron moved to Orange County about a year and a half ago from Hawaii, so he’s pretty much as non-market of a fan as you can get. So here’s how he’s arrived at his favorite teams:
National Pride – Cameron is a Japanese-American so any team sporting a lot of Japanese players will get his vote. So instead of cheering the local Angels, he prefers the Seattle Mariners.
State Pride – Hawaii doesn’t have an NFL franchise but in 2008, Cameron will have a favorite team. He will cheer for whatever franchise Colt Brennan becomes the face of.
Aesthetics – This is an odd one. He likes the Ducks, much to my dismay. He owns 4 Ducks jerseys, all black. He named his dog Giggy. However, if the Ducks decide to turn their uniforms red, he’s immediately disowning them, even if they sign Paul Kariya (half Japanese).
Favorite Players – This kind of falls under the national/state pride thing, but there are certain players and therefore, teams he’ll cheer for. Part of that is because of our NHL ’07 Dynasty Mode, where I’ve replaced every no-name Duck with a Minnesota Wild/Gopher player. He loves Keith Ballard now and
has become a U fan.
I hope this has helped you find a new team to cheer for. If not, I hope my friend has amused you as much as he’s amused me. Feel free to add to the list. I’m sure it can only get more ridiculous.
