Now that’s a closer’s beard!

The bobblehead industry seems to have lost some steam from the days when a guy could get trampled for a Denny Hocking doll or some such thing. That said, a die-hard Twins fan — one with $387 to spare — can get his or her hands on a set of dolls commemorating the 1987 Twins starting Thursday. There are only 1,000 sets being produced, so — quick math, carry the five — the Twins are hoping to make $387K for the Twins Community Fund and Shane Reardon Memorial Fund. Shane Reardon was, if you recall, former closer Jeff Reardon’s son. He died of an overdose, triggering a rather tough time in Jeff’s life. It will be interesting to see the 1987 crew re-assembled in a couple of weeks. Having not grown up here, nor as a Twins fan, we see two key distinctions, really, between the 1987 and 1991 teams: 1) the 1987 team didn’t break our heart. 2) The 1987 had a closer, Reardon, who had a real beard. That finely manicured thing taped to Aggie’s face? Nonsense.
