He dazzled us with a potshot at our honeymoon skills and sealed the deal with a clever shot at Nick Punto. Ladies and gentlemen, make room for a new Commenter Of the Week: Toonces51.
It had to be this week … I make one little crack about a
certain proprietor’s honeymoon, and he slaps me with a 300 word assignment — it feels like 8th grade all over again. Except I won’t drop out of RandBall over 300 words. Of course, also similar to 8th grade, I don’t have a lot to say, so I’ll just ramble on a bit.
The week in sports:
Bill Belichick’s reputation finally takes a hit it deserves — yeah, I realize he won three Super Bowls, but I’ve grown extremely tired of him being anointed as a genius. I mean, what kind of genius sends a guy with a video camera to the opposition’s bench? Bill, they have cameras with zoom today — keep the guy with the camera on your side of the field. Oh, and maybe don’t try it against a former protégé?
Greg Oden’s out for the year — guess those 17 seasons of
junior varsity took their toll on his knees.
Terry Ryan resigned. In an effort to keep front office names as boring as possible, Bill Smith was promoted. Don’t worry, though, Ryan will still be advising Smith, so Punto will probably still have a job, and I hear that Smith is already working on an offer for next year’s DH/LF. Smith and Ryan think he still has some good baseball left in him. [Redacted portion about a Star Tribune columnist and his behavior at the press conference].
And now I only have 75 words left to talk about Adrian Peterson — but I don’t even need that many, because it was quite clear based on his one regular season game that it is he, not Ocho Cinco, that should be wearing the “Future HOF” jacket. What? One game doesn’t make a career? Somebody really should let the folks at KFAN know.
