Friday (Gaborik, picks) edition: Wha’ Happened?
Posted on December 21st, 2007 – 9:35 AMBy Michael Rand

The last time we scored five goals in a game, the “puck” was made of either a tennis ball or some sort of spongy material, and we were playing “hog” down at one of the many glorious outdoor rinks in Grand Forks. The last time Marian Garborik scored 5 goals in a game, however, was last night. It’s a total that is, well, ridiculous. We don’t claim to be hockey know-it-alls, but we would guess that if he can score five goals every game, the Wild will be in good shape offensively this year. … Speaking of hoc-key, it is fair to say that most Minnesotans like the New York Rangers much better than the New York Islanders right now. In case you missed it, Islanders’ GM Garth Snow was frontal in pretty well ripping Don Lucia and the Gophers, blaming the program for Kyle Okposo’s lack of development and saying that was the reason Okposo chose to leave the team midseason to negotiate a pro contract. The bottom line seems to be that while this isn’t the first time such criticism has been leveled at Lucia (see: Erik Johnson), his first obligation is to the team, not individual players. The Gophers have won two NCAA titles under his watch, so he must be doing some things right. … Four years, $48 million for Carlos Silva. If that’s what the market dictates, then the market is [redacted].
