000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001champion.jpgThere is talk of a final four in college football in future years; for now, however, we have the BCS, which produces two teams for a title game based on where a squirrel in Georgia relieves itself. Or something like that. But, we suppose we’ll watch a good portion of tonight’s game. We’ll take LSU. Last year, well, we didn’t get it right: The huffing, puffing bowl season comes to an end tonight with the big one: Ohio State. Florida. Two teams will go in. Only one will come out. Or something like that. As mentioned earlier, we don’t generally follow college football with the white-hot intensity of 1,000 burning suns, but that won’t stop us from making a prediction. For some reason, 38-20 Ohio State keeps popping into our heads.

Ohio State 17-14 in a defensive(read: boring) game.

LSU wins by a couple TDs, if I had to hazard a guess.

Do not use the above as the basis for any monetary wagering.

RandBall: If you don’t like the way the BCS is decided, give us a better way. But it can’t use completely objective computer rankings or completely subjective human polls, which are what make up the BCS.

If you have a third way, I’m all ears.

If it’s good enough for Hulk Hogan it’s good enough for jama.

I hate games won by Ds. Unfortunately, tonight will be one of them. Maybe the Gladiators can play touch, or better yet, tackle football at halftime to wake up a snoozing male audience….maybe then there might be a wardrobe malfunction..

P3

Did you just say you want to see the Male Gladiators tackle each other and then have a wardrobe malfunction?

Not that there’s anything wrong with that…

Jon: The first nine weeks of the season, you play your conference schedule. After nine weeks, all 128 teams are seeded 1-128. The first week of November is “playoff week”, where all teams play. The second and third weeks of the season, you can play a cupcake or a fellow losing team on short notice, while we get down to the sweet sixteen. Thanksgiving weekend is “Sweet Sixteen weekend”, with four games each on Thanksgiving Friday and Saturday, and again all the losers can go play North Dakota State or something. The weekend after Thanksgiving weekend, you play conference championship games as normal. Then comes elite eight weekend, with one game Friday night and a tripleheader Saturday. Bowl season, the Final Four on New Year’s Day, the Championship game a week after New Year’s on some weeknight.

Nope jama, I’m more interested in someone like Belinda whose intro says is a bull rider from Australia. Somehow, I get the idea she’s ridden alot of bulls …and there’s nothing wrong with that either

Paul Peter Paulos says:

..and getting away from Belinda for a moment, though I don’t want to, a possible way to come up with a workable (and maybe better) Natl’ title game than this current format is to begin the season with conference games instead of the patsies most teams schedule. This might work since one of the arguments against a post season playoff is that it would involve too many extra games. So, why not eliminate games as against teams like IDon’tHavaChance U and hit the ground running against much stronger teams. That way the good teams can get separation from the rest of their conference freeing up more time for a Natl’ tournament.

Speaking of cupcakes, how about that thrilling Bowling Green/Tulsa tilt? Glad that was a January 6th bowl game.

That either team was bowl eligible is a disgrace. I mean, Bowling Green lost to the only ranked opponent they faced, and only beat the Gophers by one point in OT!

I see no issue with the + 1 set up. even a + 2 if necessary, to determine the best of the best to play in a real title game since colleges will then play approx the same # of games the pros do and many of these kids are going to the pros so why baby them now ? I can understand not instituting a + 1 or 2 if additional injuries is the real issue, but these kids are at their prime and ready to play and if a valid national championship is the goal, add the extra game…

fasolamatt - It’s an interesting proposal. It’s also not going to be accepted by a single university president or conference commissioner, makes the regular season 100% meaningless, gets rid of all independent teams - and STILL has to use a BCS-like system for the seeding.

Really, I only have a response to the Eliminator.

Did you see those first 2 women do it and almost die after 3 and a half minutes!?!?!? The most entertainment I’ve been a part of in my living room in a long time.

And that includes the night I plunged a knife into my intestines while I was watching Vikes-Redskins.

I’ll bet LSU wins 38-24.

Rufus !! I am mightily impressed. Do you think the Titanic will ever sink ?

Does the LSU-Ohio State result means that Shaq gets to sit on Daequan Cook for the rest of the season?

Because other than that, I could give a rat’s (redacted). There’s more important stuff in the wide world of sports going on than that game:
