The Internets: Whither “Goat of the Week?”

goat.jpgIn the course of doing our typical Monday reading, we came across a curious sight: Peter King’s Monday Morning Quarterback Feature at SI.com was missing a key element. Everything else was pretty much there except for the “Goat of the Week” category. Quickly, we went back into the archives to see if he had recently discontinued the practice of calling out a player. Nope, Dennis Northcutt wore the horns last week. So what was up with the omission this week? We’ll give King the benefit of the doubt. It could have just been an oversight after a long day. Maybe we aren’t particularly careful readers, and sometimes he skips that feature. But part of us is curious — in all seriousness — if he skipped it because the most logical recipient would have been No. 4 from the Packers, whom King has lauded with words more often than we can count. Just a thought.

*Minnetonka High graduate Will Leer recently ran a mile in under 4 minutes, which boggles our mind. Here is the video to prove it.

*Phil Rivers is tougher than he throws. Also, Tony Dungy is coming back to the Colts.

*An interesting sports tie-in to Martin Luther King Jr.’s famous “I Have a Dream” speech. Also, the McLovins are celebrating the holiday by trailing Golden State by 5 early in the third. We anxiously await a final score.

I once came in 5th in a race that Will Leer won. Granted, I was also beat by 2 high schoolers, it was our alumni CC race, and I was high on taurine/salsa. Good guy though.

Roughkat, I’d like a word with you…

(actual sports talk)

As of now, there’s 5:43 left in the McLovins game and they’re actually winning. Part of the problem is that Walker has only taken 3 shots. That’s not what McChump hired him for.

If Rand hadn’t mentioned it, I wouldn’t have even know they were playing.

Roughkat, P3 doesn’t consider basketball to be a “sport”, so your (actual sports talk) caveat was incorrect. He only considers Packers football to be a sport. Haven’t you noticed?

- P3 doesn’t comment on threads that don’t deal with football.

- P3 doesn’t comment on anything about sports unless its extolling the virtues of the Packers, bashing the Vikings or their fans, or attacking a playoff system because it almost let the Vikings in as a wild card team.

- P3 thinks that all we talk about is the Vikings, which proves point #1. I’m pretty sure he’s skipped any hockey talk, any Gopher sports talk, any basketball talk, and anything else that didn’t fit his interests.

Free at last! Free at last!

I think this is the ticket prices the McLovins have resorted to to lure/dupe fans into coming to the game.

I wish I had the day off. The man is always bringing me down.

Timberwolves Win! Although Baron Davis had to miss a last second layup for it to happen, and Golden State had to miss the second chance tip.

First road win since November 26th, apparently. I guess when there are only 6 wins to count, they tend to be spread out.

And now KSTC is having technical difficulties with the post-game interview. They weren’t sure what to do when the Wolves actually won.

Oh yeah, final score 109-108 Wolves.

PK normally does have the Goat of the week…is there a grassy knoll he is hanging out on just so he doesnt have to say something bad about Bret F. I have to admit I was cheering for the Pack, but it is nice to have them have their own 1998 to grind their teeth on for the rest of time!

Excellent Wild game going on tonight. Lots of scoring chances. 3 goals in about a 2 minute span in the second period. Dude got hit in the face with a stick, no call. It was a Vancouver player, no uglier/no foul.

We shouldn’t be blocking McLovins shots. We should be guiding them.

Koivu screaming at the Vancouver bench after his goal in the third was the highlight. Those dirty Canuks took him out a few weeks back and he evened things out with a BIG goal. Solid payback.

Even the empty-netter was solid. Great win for the Wild. Too bad Green Bay doesn’t have a hockey team. I would have loved to read PPP’s recap of this Wild game and why they suck so much.

RandBall, are you still employed, or did PPP’s threat of getting this blog pulled end your tenure with the Trib?

I also think Favre is a goat. If you stop and think you will realize that Brett Favre has the same amount of Super Bowl rings as Trent Dilfer, Brad Johnson, and Mark Rypien. The way he has been canonized by the football gods you would think that he has won 9 Lombardi Trophies and has thrown for 100,000 yards. If he is as good as everyone seems to think then he should have won the game the other day. He should have led the comeback against the Broncos in the Super Bowl, he had over 3 minutes. Three minutes is an eternity for the likes of Joe Montana and John Elway.
