Oakland Raiders to hire Denny Green?

ESPN’s Chris Mortensen is reporting that Raiders owner Al Davis is trying to get head coach Lane Kiffin to resign in order for the team to pursue Denny Green as a replacement. Apparently a letter of resignation has been drafted by Davis, but Kiffin has refused to sign it. This, as they say when trying to technically describe such a thing in our business, is an awesome story. You might recall that both coaches in question have Minnesota ties; Kiffin went to Bloomington Jefferson and played football there, and for a while was considered a strong candidate for the Gophers job that went to Tim Brewster. Denny Green? Well, he needs no introduction. Someone should write a book that is largely about the Denny Green years here. Oh, wait. Someone already did. And that same someone also took home this week’s COW, based on your voting.
