overunder.jpgWe have a lot of questions for you on this fine Thursday morning, not the least of which is, “What kind of spectator wears slacks to a two-person hang-gliding viewing party? This is casual wear time, lady. In any event, we do have some sports questions for you as well, in convenient over-under form:

*Timberwolves eventual victories this year: 22. Over or under? Well, they’re up to nine now after defeating the Bulls last night. They have close to half a season left. We’re going to be bold and take the over.

*Wild seed in the West: No. 5: We’ll take the under. We say the plucky locals are picking up steam at the right time (take that, Giguere!). It’s a crowded division, but the Wild has played three fewer home games than the nearest competitor, Calgary. We like Minnesota for the division crown this year.

*Twins victories in 2008: 75. We’ll take the under. They’re just too unsettled in the rotation (the Twins had 967 1/3 innings from their starting pitchers last year, and 421 of those innings — often the best ones — came from the now-departed Johan Santana and Carlos Silva. Plus, we just can’t imagine the Twins hanging on to Joe Nathan all year.

*Vikings victories in 2008: 8. Tough one. Who set that line? Great job. The natural inclination is to say “over” based on their rebound in the second half last year, but that schedule is pretty daunting on paper. Man. We’re going to say right on the moneyline at 8-8 again.

*Adrian Peterson 2008 fantasy draft position: No. 3 overall: Tomlinson, Addai and, depending on your scoring system, the New England connection (Brady to Moss) are in the mix. Maybe Steven Jackson and Brian Westbrook. Would you take Peterson No. 1 or No. 2 overall? We’re not sure we would yet; though we might regret it when he goes for 1,800 yards and 18 TDS. We’ll take the over (No. 4 or 5, tops).

*Gophers men’s basketball Big Ten victories: 7. Remember, they play 18 regular-season games now, not 16. We’ll take the moneyline. Seven it is.

*Gophers football victories: 4. Dave MN, we’ll leave that one to you.

*Date when Brett Favre makes a decision on his future. He has said the decision will come quicker than in years past, when he has made an off-season ritual out of hemming and hawing. We’ll put the date at March 1 … and take the over.
