Guest post co-COW: Fasolamatt and Sabathia

Chicago apologists Jama and Jon have requested that I comment on the contract status of C.C. Sabathia in the wake of the dealing of Johan Santana. This is relevant in that Sabathia is in the final year of his contract as was Santana, and the Indians face the possibility of losing Sabathia without compensation at the conclusion of 2008 festivities.
Here’s the key difference: Cleveland management has clearly stated since this time last year that the Tribe is geared up for a championship run in the 2007-08 window, and Sabathia will be a part of it. They’ll offer an extension similar to the extension that Minnesota offered Santana, and if he doesn’t take it, then they’ll hope that their pitching depth is as good as it looks and that Sabathia joins Santana in the NL. The Indians are arguably the second best team in baseball, and Tribe GM Mark Shapiro is going to gamble and try to attempt to end Cleveland’s sixty year drought this year. Next year can wait. GIMME VAUGHN Oh, and, I love the new Twins commercial (it’s on their website) despite the cheap shot (and face it, this spot is better). Still not going to the Dome on my own dime this year.
The fasolalink is: I want to do this in St Paul, on Cathedral Hill, ending at the X. Here’s the quarter- and semi-finals (first actual heat at the five minute mark).

Crashed Ice ? Awesome !!! I can’t even imagine going down that course and I’ve been skating since I before I could lace up my own skates…and “incidental contact allowed”..I mean how is that going to be called ?. In the promo link, I saw 2 guys tripping one another..deliberately ! not incidentally. And it’s one thing to skate down a steep hil (with a short hockey skate foot base under you unlike a 6′ ski for control) but how the hell is that done over bumps !!! Bring it to Cathedral Hill and I’ll be there (not skating, however. I ain’t taking part in the next Jackass movie)
If the Indians are arguably the second best team in baseball, who is #1? I’m thinking that the Indians are arguably the second best team in the AL Central…
Toonces; I conceded the Red Sox. One can argue Yankees or Angels. The Central? You have old (Det), young (KC), mixed-up (Chi) and gutted (Min). I like Cleveland’s chances.
That old Detroit team is better on paper than Cleveland. I just checked their expected depth charts, and the only spots I gave Cleveland an edge were catcher and CF–and even those were closer than I expected (1B, SS, DH, and LF were close too).
Thanks Matt, good luck with your last year of C.C. I hear that the Yankees are already buying yards and yards of fabric to get Sabathia’s uniform made for next year.
About two linear miles of pinstripes, I reckon.
