manu.jpgIt’s a story that, frankly, we didn’t know much about until we got sucked into this video and this article: Tomorrow marks the 50-year anniversary of a tragic plane crash that eventually claimed the lives of 23 people, including 8 Manchester United soccer players. Tomorrow figures to be an emotional day for many folks — five in particular. From the above linked story: The clock at Old Trafford Stadium remains permanently frozen at 3:04 p.m. on Feb. 6, 1958. The solitary word beneath it is Munich. Lest anyone forget, that was the time and date when a plane carrying the Manchester United team crashed on takeoff from Munich’s airport, decimating the famous Busby Babes but helping to create the legendary status that, to this day, makes United the best-known soccer club on earth. On Wednesday at 3:04, the five players from that disaster who are still alive will commemorate its 50th anniversary at Old Trafford. They are Bobby Charlton, Bill Foulkes, Harry Gregg, Kenny Morgans and Albert Scanlon.

And we’ll leave it at that.
