Very few people left Champaign happy last night

gordon.JPGAs someone who witnessed, first-hand, the return of Dave Spehar to Duluth, we know things can get pretty ugly when a star recruit goes back to a place where fans believe they were wronged. That said, we’ve never quite understood the venom attached to such reunions (aside from understanding that alcohol + college kids doesn’t always lead to the most rational decision-making). The latest example comes from Illinois last night, where Eric Gordon — who verbally committed to the Illini before signing with Indiana — came in with the Hoosiers. Gordon was called a “Liar.” He was booed every time he touched the ball. His parents had things thrown at them. And then those fans went home grumpy after the Hoosiers prevailed in double OT. Far be it from us to be above a good heckle, and far be it from us to forget about the time we yelled expletives, out of frustration, at Malik Rose. but this is just stupid. This is a kid who made a decision, then changed his mind. Give him a little bit of the business, and then move on. Are we right?
