Weekend links with Jon Marthaler

Happy Hockey Day in Minnesota! I know that many of the RandBall regulars are hockey haters (or, as they’d so unoriginally put it, “hoc-key?”), but I’d encourage those that hate puck to at least try some out this morning. Watch some of the outdoor game from Baudette this morning at 10 am. Just do it as a favor to me. Stick around for some of the clips of Minnesotans talking about hockey in the state. Just try it, this once. I swear, it’s better than you remember.
Enough proselytizing.
[Proprietor note: We’re bored and messing around with different blog features and we thought we’d try the “jump” feature. If you love/hate/don’t care if we do this on some future posts (especially the lengthier ones), please let us know].
*Since it’s Hockey Day, we start with a hockey story: Joe Juneau, in addition to having one of the NHL’s greatest-ever names, is also fairly awesome.
*Remember that clip of Chris Berman losing it on the set? Apparently, it wasn’t an isolated incident. [Proprietor note: The Marth sent another link that appears to have been removed, but Sports by Brooks has a nice video tribute to Berman right here. As Jon noted in what we imagine is the video he tried to link to (and is on the SbB post), “Why he didn’t just go with, ‘You’re with me, denim,’ is beyond me.”]
*John Bonnes, the TwinsGeek, looks at whether the Twins could have afforded Johan Santana. WARNING: Conclusion may cause banging of forehead against wall or other unforgiving surface.
*Via mental_floss: The stupidest events ever to take place on other networks during halftime of the Super Bowl.
*Speaking of the Super Bowl: I’d like to take a moment to point out to all the readers who happen to be Lizzy that RandBall (and, ahem, certain commenters) were EXACTLY right about how the Super Bowl was going to go down. Not to be mean, but on behalf of all Minnesotans, directed at all Boston fans: hope it stings.
That’ll do it for me. By the time you read this, I’ll be on the couch, ready to set a personal record for consecutive hockey games watched. (We all need goals in life.) Enjoy your Saturday, and remember: thanks to global warming, it has to warm up at some point.
