It’s a big weekend, isn’t it? Twins pitchers and catchers report on Sunday, which means that our long national wintry nightmare can’t be far from over. Right? Well, no; we’ve still got the rest of February, and then the basketball tournament blizzards to get through. But we can *imagine* what spring might be like. You know it’s close at hand when you’re having intense discussions at work about whether Kevin Slowey has what it takes, or whether he’s another “Quadruple-A” starting pitcher.
On with the links — and of course, we start with baseball:
*La Velle E. Neal III is already down at spring training, and he’s working hard: “There’s a new popular area that I need to gather info on before finalizing my list [of restaurant suggestions.]” Is there anybody you’d rather be in February and March than a baseball writer? Getting to go to Florida or Arizona for work every year has to pretty much make up for the crap you put up with the rest of the time, and then some.
*Joe Posnanski, meanwhile, has the transcript of the fateful Clemens-Pettitte conversation.
*In honor of NBA All-Star Weekend, a list of the six worst NBA hairstyles. If you can’t guess who #1 on this list is, you’re just not paying attention at all, are you?
*New Jersey center Sean Williams has been taking PR lessons from Dave Hakstol.
*You know how Congress always passes those pointless resolutions congratulating such and such team on whatever it was that they did, and everybody votes for them just to get onto the business of wasting taxpayer money? One Pennsylvania congressman voted against a resolution honoring the Giants — because he’s an Eagles fan. Sure, the measure still passed 412-1, but it’s still awesome. I am voting for Congressman Patrick Murphy for President, and I hope you all do the same.
*Hoc-key link of the week: The saga of Rob Blake in LA. Note to Marian Gaborik: it’s like staring into the future, isn’t it?
Enjoy your Saturday. It’s supposed to be warm; I’ll believe it when I see it.
