Guest post COW: Stensation at Lebowski Fest
Posted on March 10th, 2008 – 2:50 PMBy Michael Rand

Stensation had the run of Lebowski Fest. Here are his words from a long weekend in Chicago:
White Russians. Spot-on costumes. Bowling. Yes, Lebowski Fest Chicago 2008 was as advertised. After a Friday evening consisting of drinks, cover bands (Credence!) and an original 35mm viewing of the Coen Brothers’ cult classic, Saturday brought four hours of bowling, nonstop mingling and one patron being hauled into the back of a Chicago squad. [Redacted] fascists. Our group, dressed to the nines as In-N-Out Burger employees, nabbed one of the last bowling lanes available - and good thing, too. Joining up with a pair of locals, two of our six on the lanes received trophies for highest and second-highest bowling scores on the night, rolling into the 190s. They were slammin’ ‘em. Mark it, Dude. The crowd favorite Saturday had to be the gentleman who came dressed as The Big Lebowski - wheelchair and all - flanked by a pair of Maudes. Other costume highlights included a pinky toe (with polish), The Walrus and a dead-ringer for The Stranger. Creativity kudos goes to the trio who came as London, France and the Queen and her damned undies. This just hits the tip of the iceberg, though. Naturally there were countless Dudes and Walters. One couple came dressed as the crime lab (no word on any leads) while another wore t-shirts simply stating a lot of ins, a lot of outs and a lot of what-have-yous. This weekend just might make us famous, too. We won’t know for some time yet, but there is a possibility our group might be included in the official Lebowski Fest documentary (really). We were filmed having a conversation and getting our picture taken with a convincing looking Walter. After that, we were asked to sign paperwork allowing, if needed/wanted, our mugs to be used in the film. Regardless of whether we’re in the movie or not, the whole experience reminded us why we love this movie in the first place. A bunch of Dudes just takin’ her easy in the name of fun.

Fatuous.
Did anyone bring a Pomeranian bowling or at least buy it a beer?
Stu - fatuous but fabulous.
Sorry to burst your bubble, but that’s what Eddie said at Lebowski Fest III in 2004. Four years later, and all he has out is a trailer.
Sounds like you guys “we’re throwin rocks tonight.”
Man, I wish I had time to go back to one of the festivals.
Jon: I meant that in the good, Maude Lebowski-referencing way. Stensation had my vote, and I am glad to see that democracy can produce such pleasant results.
How, uh, how you coming on that movie you’re workin on?, hm?
Got a nice little, uh, plot-line going on there?
An intriguing “do I like him, don’t I like him?” lead character?
Big movie, you’ve been working on for four years? Hm?
Planned out any still camera shots? Any slow motion? Hm?
Got a nice dramatic arc? Nice beginning, middle, and end? Do ya?
Been working on that movie for quite some time. You were talking about that four years ago, eh? Been working on that the whole time?
At the end, your main character is richer for the experience? Yeah?
Nice work Dave MN, nice work.
I’m gonna go work on my novel.
I should really get around to seeing that movie someday.
localquipster will probably punch you the face for having never seen that movie
Roughkat is absolutely right, but since it’s Kirscht, I would throw in an extra ninja kick.
Can Randball start a campaign to bring Lebowski Fest to Minneapolis? It would be good for the tourism industry and I would drink my weight in White Russians. We could have our own chapter.
The next Redactular may now have a theme, and may I suggest RanHam lanes in St Paul as an appropriate venue.
Sassbottom - hard to miss it these days if you have the lowest-tier movie channels. Any given Sunday on one of the Encore stations you’ll have Sam Elliot in “Roadhouse” followed by Sam Elliot in “Lebowski” followed by Sam Elliot in “Mask” followed by a late-nite showing of Sam Elliot in “Rush”.
