Guest post COW: Stensation at Lebowski Fest

Stensation had the run of Lebowski Fest. Here are his words from a long weekend in Chicago:
White Russians. Spot-on costumes. Bowling. Yes, Lebowski Fest Chicago 2008 was as advertised. After a Friday evening consisting of drinks, cover bands (Credence!) and an original 35mm viewing of the Coen Brothers’ cult classic, Saturday brought four hours of bowling, nonstop mingling and one patron being hauled into the back of a Chicago squad. [Redacted] fascists. Our group, dressed to the nines as In-N-Out Burger employees, nabbed one of the last bowling lanes available - and good thing, too. Joining up with a pair of locals, two of our six on the lanes received trophies for highest and second-highest bowling scores on the night, rolling into the 190s. They were slammin’ ‘em. Mark it, Dude. The crowd favorite Saturday had to be the gentleman who came dressed as The Big Lebowski - wheelchair and all - flanked by a pair of Maudes. Other costume highlights included a pinky toe (with polish), The Walrus and a dead-ringer for The Stranger. Creativity kudos goes to the trio who came as London, France and the Queen and her damned undies. This just hits the tip of the iceberg, though. Naturally there were countless Dudes and Walters. One couple came dressed as the crime lab (no word on any leads) while another wore t-shirts simply stating a lot of ins, a lot of outs and a lot of what-have-yous. This weekend just might make us famous, too. We won’t know for some time yet, but there is a possibility our group might be included in the official Lebowski Fest documentary (really). We were filmed having a conversation and getting our picture taken with a convincing looking Walter. After that, we were asked to sign paperwork allowing, if needed/wanted, our mugs to be used in the film. Regardless of whether we’re in the movie or not, the whole experience reminded us why we love this movie in the first place. A bunch of Dudes just takin’ her easy in the name of fun.
