gopherspuck.jpgIs everyone out there in Gophers puck land OK? We just want to be sure. We watched a decent chunk of Game 2 and pretty much all of Game 3 last night from a fairly casual standpoint, and we’re not sure how anyone with a vested interest made it through without tearing a pillow in half or karate chopping a living room table. Sweet mercy. We texted Marthaler just to check on him, and he fumbled something back about a “heart murmur.” We believe he was joking. We sure hope so. In any event, we imagine folks from Mankato to St. Cloud to Duluth were ecstatic to see the underdog Gophers finally catch some breaks. (Great photo of Alex Kangas making one of his 900 saves this weekend by the STrib’s Brian Peterson).

How about Georgia? Seriously, how ridiculous was that run? Four games in three days; a team with four conference wins dealing with a tragedy. The No. 14-seed Bulldogs will have a good chunk of the country on their side later this week.

Sticking with the hoops: To keep the bracket picking simple, we’re going to invite all of you to participate in the challenge already set up through Startribune.com. We’re not rolling with the U Pick’em, where each round you have to pick. This one has you pick the entire bracket. That said: If someone would care to keep tabs on a more complicated bracket (hint: Roughkat, we’re looking at you), we’d be more than happy to steer folks to two different places, with the latter being the “official” RandBall tourney bracket (and the winner gaining fabulous prizes). Thoughts? Sorry, there will be no NIT bracket.
