Accusation makes us ask: What is a sway bar?

From ESPN.com:

Jack Roush said on Friday that a Toyota team stole a sway bar made specifically for Roush Fenway Racing from one of his Sprint Cup teams last season at Dover.

“A theft did occur,” the co-owner of Roush Fenway said during practice at Martinsville Speedway. “The part was recovered. … We are still considering what if any legal action to seek.”

One of the options is having a restraining order taken out to guarantee the team in question does not duplicate the bar, which has been determined legal by NASCAR, for a competitive advantage.

It’s lawyer time,” Roush said.

Wooooo-weeeeeeeee! We’re gonna get the law after you, son! You steal our sway bar, you get the sway horns. Understand? Rubbin’ is racin’! Yah!

I tried to sway the bar into giving me free drinks but that didn’t work either.

I’ll be here all week.

A search through legal cases in an, um, prominent legal research database with regional operating headquarters in a “south of the river suburb”, reveals a patent case involving sway bars on a carriage to be towed by a horse or oxen in 1869.

Just thought you’d like to know.

Rand’s post-quote commentary is a lot more fun to read if you imagine Howard Dean saying it. Yah!

Matt: I assume the case hinged on the testimony of a handlebar-mustachioed blacksmith who was accused by the prosecution of being in the moleskin trouser pocket of Big Pomade.
