Rappers love Phil Collins; who will coach the Knicks?

morcheebathen.jpgmorcheebanow.jpgPerhaps the most startling thing learned at last night’s Morcheeba show at First Avenue — aside from the fact that the group has a completely different singer than it used to (above: before; below: after), which is roughly the equivalent of hearing Sammy Hagar sing “Jump” or some such thing and enraged the RBBH to no end — was the revelation from Wolves blogger Li’l Dice that rappers love Phil Collins. We had never heard this before, and we can only find circumstantial evidence on the Interwebs to support the claim, but as crazy as it sounds she swears it’s true. Maybe it’s not as far as we think from “Take Me Home” to “Just a Lil Bit.” In any event, if rappers can love Phil Collins, that can only mean one thing: anyone and everyone is in play to coach the craziest team in the NBA, the Knicks, after the new Donnie Walsh regime does the sensible thing and cans Isiah Thomas. Could be Bobby Knight. Could be Rick Pitino. Could be Cheryl Littlejohn. Could be just about anyone. We do know this: Put your guess down right now; if it turns out to be correct, you’ll be the envy of the neighborhood and win a free egg roll.

It always made me laugh how many people thought the singer’s name was Morcheeba. They look so much sadder these days.

Rap and Hip/Trip Hop or whatever the kids are into these days love Phil Collins because his beats are so sampleable (not a word… yet). Seriously.

Bobby Knight as Knicks coach… stranger things involving basketball have happened. Like Thomas Pynchon name-checking Kevin McHale in one of his novels.

How about the grenade-throwing baseball manager as the new Knicks coach?

I really think that is the same lead singer. You can’t see the Similarities? It’s like a modern day Michael Jackson.

New Knicks Coach: Patrick Ewing.

I’m sure it wasn’t on purpose, but I was amused by the “after” JPEG’s title. Sounds like a Ricky Williams contract demand. (/zing)

Bone-Thugs-n-Harmony did a collaboration with Phil Collins about 5 years ago. I couldn’t stop laughing when I saw them in a video together.

Knicks coach: I hear Chris Henry is going to have a little time on his hands. If not him, I’ll go with Jeff Van Gundy returning to the Garden to jump on someones leg.

I say that Phil Jackson will get thrown under the bus when Kobe loses in the 2nd round this year and then he’ll take over the team he used to play for.
