Weekend links with Jon Marthaler

weekendlinks.jpgHow about that Wild game last night? Memo to my neighbors: I’m sorry about the presence of my foot in your apartment. I had no idea the wall was that thin, or I wouldn’t have kicked it after the Avalanche tied the game. And really, all of the cursing was probably unnecessary. As was the part when I lit the chair on fire and threw it out onto the lawn. But hey, who knew the fire department would take it so seriously, anyway? What a bunch of uptight nerds. I know I shouldn’t have discharged the firearm at them, but hey, if you wave it around menacingly, after awhile you have to make sure people know you’re willing to use it, you know what I’m saying?

I think all of this overtime hockey — what with the Gophers, and now two consecutive Stanley Cup playoff games — is starting to get to me a little bit.

*Naturally, the first link would be a City Pages photo gallery of a few of the fans around the X last night. It’s nice to see so many people taking things seriously — and forcing their kids into it, too. The Star Trib has a nice gallery of game photos as well.

*Speaking of the Stanley Cup: Flyers left wing Patrick Thoresen may have just sacrificed half his equipment to block a shot. Note to all guys reading this: I advise curling up underneath a table before reading that link.

*A blog covered a Dallas Mavericks game. As yet, there are no reports of the world ending or of either the Dallas Morning News or Fort Worth Star-Telegram ceasing publication. That said, I’m sure that somewhere — even if he doesn’t know why yet — Rick Reilly is angry.

*There’s only one key line from this story: “[The defense lawyer] described his client’s behaviour as ‘bizarre and, unfortunately, brought on by drunken stupidity.’” Surprisingly, this link involves neither Chris Henry nor Pacman Jones.

*Looks like Bill Simmons isn’t going to be the new Milwaukee Bucks GM. I’m so torn up inside, I just don’t know what I’ll do …

That’ll do it for me. Enjoy your weekend; I’m off to buy some sheetrock, do some yard maintenance, and make a court appearance. Got a nice day planned — hope you do too.

Whoa. You said you were going out last night! Damn you, Marthaler! I had to drink by myself last night and had to give myself my own Heimlich.

You see, I could have prevented that if I wasn’t so lame and far away.
