“NASCAR in the sky” coming to Wisconsin
Posted on April 14th, 2008 – 4:31 PMBy Michael Rand
We’re not sure everyone is ready for this, but it’s coming: The Rocket Racing League, which bills itself as “NASCAR in the sky” announced today it will have exhibition races Aug. 1-2 in none other than Oshkosh, Wis. We imagine this will be wildly popular. Us? We’re kind of scared of it, but only because it sounds insane. Words from a PR man promoting the league:
“Rocket Racing pits rocket-powered planes that go 300+ mph against each other on an airborne 3-D race course.”
Oh. Go ahead and check out their YouTube page. We’re still not quite sure how to react.

In the pantheon of World-Historic Bad Ideas, this will fall somewhere between “land war in Asia” and “new Coke.”
That would be cool for the same reason NASCAR would be cool — the possibility that you could see a spectacular, if not deadly, crash.
I ain’t sayin’ NASCAR is cool, though.
It only makes sense to debut in Oshkosh, air show death capital of the world.
And no, I am not surprised that this is happening in Wisconsin.
Hmmm…show up on the home page, get 50+ responses. Get mentioned on Barreiro, get five, all from regulars.
I guess the Interweb is killing radio too.
Go figure, Tigers get healthy against the Twins. Damn bullpen… Left Guerrier in too long, Neshek can’t get anyone out, our defensive player (Everett) makes a backbreaking error…
Yep, pretty typical.
toonces — much of that depends on time of day, too, as you well know. Noon vs. 5 p.m. is a huge difference in Interwebs time.
What about two in the morning?
