Fan falls and dies at Mets game

No joking around on this one. From the AP:

A man attending a New York Mets game with his family lost his balance on an escalator and fell two stories to his death, police said.

Antonio Nararainsami, 36, and several relatives, including his two young daughters, were leaving the stadium at the end of Tuesday night’s game against the Washington Nationals when he fell in a section below the left field stands and landed on a concrete floor. Nararainsami, a Guyanese native who lived in Brooklyn, was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead half an hour later.

Kevin Prashad, a cousin who attended the game, said Nararainsami was walking down the escalator, which wasn’t moving, and was holding the hand rail when he “lost his footing.”

Ugh. Just terrible. It reminds us very much of a (thankfully) far less tragic incident at Yankee Stadium a few years back, when a fan fell from the stands (on purpose) and landed in the netting behind home plate. A similar incident also happened at a Yankee Stadium game we were at in 2000. Bottom line: If you are attending a game in New York, use caution.

A different report I saw said that this guy was trying to slide down the escalator railing and fell backwards. It sounds like we got some differing reports.

On a lighter note, I once fell down about 20 stairs at a St. Cloud State hockey game.

Alcohol may or may not have been a contributing factor.

Seriously, that’s just about the worst story ever.

Time for a new post, this one is just a little depressing.

Hmmm.

Well, who won the game?

Wonderful. I’m going out to NY this Summer to see two of the Twins games against the Yankees and a Mets/Phillies game at Shea. I’ll make sure I don’t try leaping into the netting behind home-plate at Yankee Stadium or engage in tomfoolery/horseplay on the Shea escalators.

Yikes.

One of the great things about the Metrodome: very few places where you can trip on the stairs and fall to your death.

That’s what counts.

Mets 1, fan with poor balance 0.

Julio - Not good to speak ill of the dead. His 2 young daughters saw the whole thing. If I were you, I’d stay away from escalators, stadiums, and anything related to baseball.

Julio
You need to post under another name from now on. That was a trashy statement

Maybe he had a huge life insurance policy, and his daughters are happy. Don’t jump to conclusions.
