Weekend links with Jon Marthaler

weekend-links.jpgWelcome once again to the weekend links, where - this week only — all YouTube links are half price.

*Let’s get this out of the way early: This calls for the old Billy Baroo!

*Isiah Thomas: Yeah, that guy got fired. Stephen A. Smith, do you have anything to add?

*I’m not sure what the funniest part of this video is, but here are three candidates: 1. The fact that Chicago Sun-Times beat writer Joe Cowley actually seems to believe that he can steal a base off of AJ Pierzynski. 2. Watching Cowley take it so seriously that he’s arguing calls. 3) Pierzynski taunting Cowley at the end of the video. (WARNING: Given that this video includes AJ Pierzynski, you should know this: the video includes some foul language.)

*Today’s slightly-useful link: a scouting report — complete with video — on Twins prospect Deolis Guerra, one of the players the organization received in exchange for Johan Santana.

That’s four links involving video … which is enough for one Saturday. Enjoy the weekend, and if you’re RandBall, get out there and start running — and filming it. By marathon day, we need a full-blown 1980s-style training montage, preferably set to this song.

I don’t know, Jon, I think this one might make a better marathon montage: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_yJ_86fqX5k

You’re both wrong.

Ummm…hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I’m pretty sure that after 1985, all 1980’s training montages are required to include one of these two songs:

The awkward hugging on the beach scene and/or pulling a sled in the snow with a fat friend on the back are also legal requirements.

Delmon Young just gunned down Asdrubal Cabrera at the plate, C-Dog and I were very impressed. Greetings from the home run porch, where C-Dog is attending his first game. He’s rooting for the Twins. I’m not.

fasolamatt - could you tell Mauer and Blackburn apart? Was watching on the tube, can’t find my specs, and at first I wondered why Mauer had his elbow iced up in the dugout. Blackburns indeed.

How about Little Nicky’s defense? I’m sorry about all the things I said about you Nicky…

The highlight, however, was Batgirl getting a shout out from the Fox announcer. He referred to Mauer as “The Chairman” at least once. I was hoping when they scanned the dugout he’d point out “Cuddles” but, alas not.

Here’s my vote for the montage song:

ramon

Funny you say that, the lady friend was wondering why Mauer was pitching also, and then said that Blackburn is now her second favorite player. I guess that was a hint that I am in need of some sideburns.

jama, I can’t tell what’s less attractive on a man - those sideburns or the pencil-drawn facial hair thing Liriano’s sporting. Stay as you are, my friend. Those burns shall pass.

Of course, who am I to talk. I still have my suede leather bell bottoms.

Man, I miss AJ. He is so much fun.
