Boy in Speed Racer a big Vikings fan

speed-racer-1.jpgThe subtitle to this item: AZGopherGirl reads gossip magazines so we don’t have to. From AZ: In case you haven’t seen it, seeing as how you’re crossing over into movie coverage. See the Speed Racer story. Not sure why a kid born in Jersey would be a Vikes fan …

And, now, said item:

Paulie Litt, 13, who plays Speed’s brother Spritle, is a big sports fan and was delighted to discover that on Fridays, crew members wore their favorite team’s jersey. But being a Minnesota Vikings fan, Paulie was less excited to discover that directors Andy and Larry Wachowski are fans of the rival Chicago Bears. Turning the tables, Paulie acquired about 150 Vikings shirts and distributed them around the set. The Wachowskis got payback by adding a scene that required Paulie to stand by a toilet and act sick. Once he leaned over, the Wachowskis jeered: “That’s where your Vikings belong — in the toilet!” Later, the Vikings beat the Bears, and Paulie sent the directors an arrangement of yellow andpurple flowers, along with a card: “Sorry for your loss.”

The live-action adaptation comes out on May 9; Litt is apparently from New Jersey, which would have made him a very unhappy youngster around the time of 41-doughnut.

With the 17th selection of the 2008 NFL Draft, the Minnesota Vikings select:

Speed Racer out of the University of California

Mel Kiper: This is a little bit of a reach but as you can see by his name Speed Racer can fly. He is a little undersized to play WR in the NFL but he should be very valuable in the return game. Overall I give this pick a C- but if he can add some bulk to his frame he could be a real sleeper in the future.

Sean Salisbury: Worst pick in the draft. This kid couldn’t carry my jock.

Merril Hoge: How does this plaid suit look in this light?

Chris Berman: Where are my deux, deux, deux’s? Shut the [redacted] up over there, haven’t you ever worked in television before?

Paulie also has some def jams you can hear here:

I recommend “After School”. Note that his influences are Frank Sinatra, Louis Armstrong and…Regis Philbin?

Paulie Litt has more friends than my band…

I know this could be an entry some day but speaking of lists, check out the top 2 on this list. They are both regulars in the Randball chatter.

Why should Rand have to change his name when Bolton is the one that sucks?

Do you know any professional who goes by Mike? It just doesn’t sound professional for some reason.

jama says:

I wanna be, I wanna be, I wanna be like Mike. Like Mike, if I could be like Mike.

No professional Mike’s come to mind but I’m sure there’s one out there somewhere.

Dave MN says:

Despite the “Like Mike” commercial, I’ve never heard Michael Jordan referred to as Mike Jordan…

jama says:

Only his close personal friends call him Mike. It’s kind of like calling Tiger Woods, Rick.

Dave MN says:

April 22nd, 2008 at 2:21 pm

By that logic, are we all supposed to be calling Sid Hartman, “Sidney”? Unless, of course, we were Bobby Knight or someone of that ilk.

I thought of one:

Mike Modano

Is Rand taking an afternoon nap today?

Oh and Jake Long is the #1 pick in the NFL draft. St. Louis you’re on the clock.

Am I the only one that finds it strange that the #1 team in the draft gets to sign their pick before the draft even happens?

What happened to drawn-out holdouts that led to missing the first few games of the season? What happened to sit ups in the driveway?

Are the Dolphins still going to sit there like idiots even though they’ve already signed their pick, just so ESPN’s “analysts” can blather on and on and on…

jama - should Dave feel bad that you followed his band’s myspace link with a list of annoying singers?

Dave MN says:

April 22nd, 2008 at 2:36 pm

That last one needed a question mark…

Dave MN says:

April 22nd, 2008 at 2:37 pm

Hell, if my band had half the career of any of those people on that list, I’d be okay with being one of the “worst singers of all time”…

P.S. Rand awarded 4 quarter-COWs so he could take the afternoon off. Stu, Brandon and Clarence are probably working on their masterpieces. I am procrastinating, hanging out with you guys and waiting for inspiration to strike.

AZ +1

I refuse to get a Myspace account so I haven’t heard the music. But my guess is that it’s completely awesome.

We’re talking about Dave Matthews, right?

I’d suggest writing about the War in Iraq or how the conflict in Nigeria is driving up gas prices.

Mike and Mike on ESPN go by their shortened names

Eye-Rack?

Nye-Jeeria?

Hell, if they don’t cover it on SportsCenter or the Today Show, well, I just don’t know…

Are you going on the record that those two individuals are “professionals”?

Dave MN says:

April 22nd, 2008 at 2:43 pm

If I walk over to Town Hall, will Rand be there?

Dave MN says:

April 22nd, 2008 at 2:44 pm

I mean, because I know that’s where I’d be sitting outside if I took the afternoon off…

Dave MN says:

April 22nd, 2008 at 2:45 pm

Oh yeah, and you don’t need a myspace account to see my band’s page. So you can enjoy it, too, Jama.

Dave MN says:

I just pulled a Gaborik on this comment thread…

jama says:

“I just pulled a Gaborik on this comment thread”

Are you “squeezing the stick”? That’s all I heard Gaborik was doing during the playoffs. I hope he doesn’t go blind.

Dave MN says:

April 22nd, 2008 at 2:52 pm

Wow, “Pulled a Gaborik” has just taken on new meaning…

Dave MN says:

Oh yeah, +1 Jama

There isn’t an afternoon Twins game, somebody page the Vu and tell Michael Rand to get back to work.

Dave MN says:

April 22nd, 2008 at 3:28 pm

At the Vu, they know him as Mike
