The latest dispute between Tennessee women’s basketball coach Pat Summitt and UConn’s Geno Auriemma leads us to a fine idea: a reader-generated series on the underrated rivalries in sports. We’ve always thought the fantastic tiffs between Geno and Pat went under the radar somewhat because — and this is no knock on women’s hoops, which we covered for a year back in the day — it’s not as mainstream as, say, Yankees vs. Red Sox. But these are two coaches of the highest-profile programs in the game who, frankly, just don’t seem to care for each other personally. Professional respect? Yes. Otherwise? Not much common ground.
