Buried Ortiz jersey worth $175K for charity

See that ugly hunk of cloth? That’s the David Ortiz jersey that was buried by a construction worker in the new Yankee Stadium. And now? It’s worth $175,100 for charity. From the AP:
The Boston Red Sox jersey secretly buried under the new Yankee Stadium in an attempt to “curse” the Yankees sold for $175,100 in a charity auction.
The Jimmy Fund, a cancer charity, didn’t immediately reveal the name of the winning bidder after the week-long eBay auction closed at 12:30 p.m. Thursday.
The bid was the highest of 282 for the battered David Ortiz jersey, which the Yankees jackhammered out from under two feet of concrete earlier this month.
We’re all for the Jimmy Fund getting a big lift, but we really have to wonder who would pay that much for a unique but rather marginal piece of history.

Going in a completely opposite direction from BIG Papi. Check this out. Would this fly in the States?

My younger brother buried his soiled underwear in our back yard because he didn’t want our mom to find out. The briefs were unearthed when the digging started for a pool. His name was still visable on the waistband.
I would pay more for those dirty shorts than I would for any Red Sox jersey.
My brother and I buried G.I. Joes in our mom’s herb garden after annihilating them with a 9-iron in the backyard.
She was not pleased.
As you can tell, we both turned out to be upstanding citizens.
I once buried Jimmy Hoffa in Giants Stadium but he still hasn’t been found. I’ll tell someone where he is for $175k.
Ummmm. Paul? I think you may be thinking of another Dave MN, because I am his real brother, Steve MN.
Moe MN
Can’t Dave have more than one brother? And it’s up for debate whether any of us are upstanding citizens. What with Dave’s drinking problem, Paul’s gambling addiction, and Steve’s Peeping issues.
That couldn’t have gone more right.
In other news, the boom microphone used for RandBites fetched $240,000.
That wasn’t a boom microphone that Rand was attempting to talk into!
Yeah, we don’t talk to Steve MN after “the incident”
