You won’t believe this: J.R. Rider’s in trouble again
Posted on April 28th, 2008 – 3:57 PMBy Michael Rand
Those who have followed the Timberwolves since the early days and have also tried — likely in vain, even SI.com appears to have lost interest in all of them — to track the various legal misadventures of Isaiah “J.R.” Rider will be stunned to know that he has once again run afoul of the law. From TMZ.com, with a tip from Paul W.:
A Los Angeles Commissioner has just issued a $30,000 bench warrant for former NBA player Isaiah Rider. The warrant was issued after Rider failed to show up for his scheduled arraignment this morning.
Rider, who played for the Lakers and Timberwolves, was busted last month while driving through Skid Row in L.A. for failure to stop at the limit line at an intersection. He originally was booked for grand theft auto — since the 2001 Chevy Monte Carlo he was driving seemed to have been a stolen vehicle — but only was charged with one misdemeanor count of driving with a suspended license. Isaiah was released on $25,000 bail.
TMZ says “story developing.” We don’t know if that means more crimes are anticipated to be committed by Rider in the near future, or if the reporting is just incomplete at this time. By the way, that Star Tribune archive picture of Rider and a rookie KG? Happier times.

geez he should come back and play for the wolves so they can start getting some good headlines here in the twin cities.
Does this mean that there’s an outside chance we can see him on one of those cop chase shows over on Spike? Er, um, I mean I’m shocked to hear about this!
This didn’t involve a wedding and/or a dentist, did it?
Worst first round draft decisions in T-Wolves history (Not in any particular order)
1. Ndudi Ebi
2. Isaiah Rider
3. Christian Laettner
4. Donyell Marshall
5. Trading Ray Allen for Marbury
6. Felton Spencer
7. Paul Grant
8. Under the table deal with Joe Smith
9. Pooh Richardson
Is it just me or was every pick but KG and Wally(Kinda…) just a bust? (yes)
So, knowing he’s an admitted “X” (where X = criminal persuasion of your choice) doesn’t it still seem odd that he was pulled over for “failure to stop at the limit line at an intersection” and booked for “grand theft auto” of what was apparently not a stolen vehicle? There’s got to be more to this story, right? Was he shooting pedestrians/passengers at the time? Was the officer a former TWolves fan?
Joker
10. Trading Brandon Roy for Randy Foye and million cash.
Maybe J.R. was just practicing for the new Grand Theft Auto game that’s coming out.
So that’s where my ‘01 Monte Carlo went. I sent it out to Spree to get my spinnin’ rims and never saw it again. Oh well.
BTW -
GO HAWKS!!
That article read like a game of Pop Culture Mad Libs. “OK: one former athlete, one ’80s hair band, one video game, one popular car. Go.”
What?!?! Rider is in trouble again? That’s nonsense. Next, you’ll probably tell me that Twins still don’t have much power in their lineup or that the Gophers football team lost again.
Wow, he’s only 37? We should sign him!
Joker: where does “Ten-Thumbs” Longley fit into your worst 1st-rounders list?
I dont watch the NBA-thug lifestyle has turned me off forever and I love basketball. No thanks!!!!!
Golly seems like there are more losers and no good thugs in the N BA then elesware…. Maybe J R could be the God Father–Maybe he already is
