All-time dunks: remembering Tom Chambers
Posted on May 14th, 2008 – 11:39 AMBy Michael Rand
At this morning’s official meeting of the 70/30 Club — at which three founding members wore freshly purchased and highly discounted Ricky Davis Timberwolves jerseys — a hot topic of discussion was the great dunks of the NBA. It came on the heels of LeBron’s posterizing moment on KG Monday, which prompted several Top 10 dunk segments on various programs. The discussion centered on a dunk that often is unappreciated but deserves a place in those all-time annals: Tom Chambers over Mark Jackson. Chambers, the former college standout for Utah and the 1987 All-Star Game MVP, had what the kids call “serious ups.” Please have a look-see, with the added bonus of commentary from Mitch Richmond.

It’s one thing to get hurdled by MJ, Vince Carter, Lebron…but to have it done by not only a a shinny white guy, but a skinny white with a MULLET! I especially liked the ending of “ISN’T THAT SICK?” Here’s a link if you’re wondering what Tom Chambers looks like now.*

Joker, that’s not a mullet, that’s a spoiler to keep him from flying out of the gym…
I feel like I’d be laughed out of a best-dunk discussion by mentioning Tom Chambers. But the Youtubes say differently. That dunk is, indeed, “sick.” Tom Chambers is exceptionally white, which definitely works against him in said discussions.
That dunk is one of the “unstoppable” moves in the old Sega Genesis game, “Lakers Vs Celtics”. It looked ridiculous then as a 12-year old and is still somewhat awe-inspiring.

Please tell me that this is true and not embellished.

Next time instead of having a randtacular event of playing football, it’s going to be a game of basketball where everyone wears Wolves Jerseys of players that no one cares about anymore. Here’s the list:
Cassell
Szczerbiak
Rider
Davis
Garnett
Spreewell
Lattener
Gugliotta
Marbury
Brandon
There’s 10. We could have a whole game of 5 on 5.
Forgot these 2 for bench players:
Hudson
Smith
Stu: 100 percent true.
If the newspaper had more 100% true details like this in it, they wouldn’t have a problem with readership numbers.

I saw that game. Chambers added to the game because the host city needed at least one player… all the other players either running the offense through him or not playing D… the crowd going wild at his winning the MVP…
I still get teary-eyed thinking about it.
