The Internets: Bill Simmons has had it up to here

simmons.jpegDeadspin scores big with an e-mail exchange with ESPN.com’s Bill Simmons, in which it is clear the Sports Guy is not happy with the state of affairs over at the WWL. Without rehashing Simmons’ entire career arc, we will say we did notice he hadn’t been quite as active lately. From Deadspin, Simmons’ words:

I still love writing my column and only re-signed last year because I really did believe that we had hashed out all the behind the scenes [redacted] and come to some sort of agreement on creative lines, media criticism rules, the promotion of the column and everything else on ESPN.com. Within a few months, all of those things changed and certain promises were not kept. It’s as simple as that.

*Two consecutive days of Jedi Church links? Well, two people sent it to us. We have rules, if not standards. The key takeaway:

In the 2001 United Kingdom census, 390,000 — 0.7 percent of the population — listed Jedi as their religion.

*Bpar reads Joe Posnanski because he’s awesome. Joe P., we mean. Ah, Bpar, you’re all good, too.

*Arlen Specter just can’t quit the Tapes ‘n Tapes scandal.

*Random musical link: The Plastic Constellations. Listen to “Black Market Pandas” if you only have time for one song.

*Check out this gem from SportsbyBrooks, which finds our nation’s president giving up golf because, you know, there’s a war going on.

*Joe Mauer vs. Russell Martin. Defend yourself. Oh, it’s just fantasy. Well then, ladies, the answer is easy. Drink in those calming sideburns and drown yourself in singles to left.

That’s…not going to help the approval ratings.

Nothing about the O.J. Mayo scandal? Seeing that McLovin’s old roommate Bill Duffy is at the center of it?

Ramon: scroll down a bit, you’ll find what you’re looking for, with bonus NPR/Hip-Hop jokes.

But yeah, that Bill Duffy angle is interesting…

Bush has got it all wrong. He needs to keep golfing to show the terrorists that he won’t let them change his way of life. Even better, he should challenge Kim Jong-il to a match. Let’s see Kim replicate his 11 hole-in-one effort when face-to-face with the leader of the free world!

My scrollin’ ain’t rollin’ like it used to… thanks Stu. I’m interested in the Duffy angle because he was always supposed to be one of the “good ones” in the sports agent world.

Not as good as Tom Cruise of course.

The SbB story was also in the Newspaper of the Twin Cities this morning. Take that, internet media!

Also: is a certain Redactular Strib blogger about to become the new Vikings beat writer?

First thanks for the shout out on the Mauer versus Martin piece, I also go with Mauer but for baseball reasons. Though the Twins Joe Mauer side burns night was hilarious.

I have to comment on the Bill Simmons piece. Great for Deadspin to get it btw, but here is a guy who has actually developed a huge and I mean huge following writing only an internet column. He is probably one of the best known sports writers in America, if he has a beef at ESPN they better solve it, and fast!

I happily have Russell Martin on my fantasy team…would take him over Joe Mauer in fantasy any day.
