Stu’s Hunt Down: Najee Mustafaa

The Huntdown
Name: Najee Mustafaa
Claim to Fame, Minnesota: a safety out of Georgia Tech, the former Reggie Rutland was drafted by the Vikings in 1987. He would later change his name to Najee Mustafaa, joining other Vikings who adopted a name that reflected their newfound spirituality (Ahmad Rashad=the former Bobby Moore, Matt Birk=the former Nguyen Tran Pho*). There is no truth to the rumor that Mustafaa changed it so people would forget who it was that Jerry Rice abused in the NFC playoffs.
Claim to Fame, Everywhere Else: played for both the Browns and Raiders before hanging it up in 1995.
Where He Is Now: the Intarweb is not giving us an exact location, but we’re going to assume that he’s in the Atlanta area, as that’s where his son, Charles, went to high school before being recruited to play football at Kentucky.
Glorious Randomness: Mustafaa’s hometown of East Point, Ga., also gave us OutKast, who are awesome. In addition, the 1993 Cleveland Browns team he was on was coached by pre-good-at-his-job Bill Belicheck and featured the immortal Touchdown Tommy Vardell. Fasolamatt, you’re welcome.
*Unconfirmed

Next week, I’m guessing, we’ll be in reruns, like this one: Bill Belicheck makes a peanut butter sandwich, which is what I thought of when I read about the 1993 Cleveland Browns.
I was really hoping for something like “Faced charges for slashing Carl Lee’s tires,” or something like that. “Destroyed three bars in one night with Al Noga.” Et cetera.
Marth, The: yeah, I know, the Vikings I’ve been profiling of late have been sorely lacking in Embarrassing Off-Field Incidents. We here at the Hunt Down have noticed this, too, and going forward will be focusing on our core competencies and shifting our paradigms to better slake the reader’s thirst for the high-value ephemera that we provide.
