Arena Bowl and Huey Lewis: It’s Hip To Be Square
Posted on May 30th, 2008 – 3:07 PMBy Michael Rand
We’re a little disappointed we had to randomly discover this, rather than have it sent to us by AZgophergirl. But it pleases us greatly to report that following in the tradition of dinosaur acts at the Super Bowl, Huey Lewis (and the News) will be headlining the ArenaBowl Extravaganza, a free concert July 26, the night before Arena Bowl XXII in New Orleans. Correction: not only will he be headlining, according to the Arena League web site, he will “rock” said event. But that’s not all — please do enjoy this description of Huey Lewis and the News from the site:
Huey Lewis and The News have been defying the rock oddsmakers for over two decades. Formed from two rival Bay Area bands in 1979, their contagious brand of straight-ahead rock n’ roll has outlasted countless trends, selling over 20 million albums worldwide in the process.
That picture of Huey Lewis, by the way, is from Dolphintrainer.com, which is a treasure trove in and of itself. You might enjoy the picture of Mark McGwire. We know that we did. That sea lion might be the only living creature to know the truth about 1998.

“I’m missing the news!”
“We all miss The News, Meg, but Huey Lewis needs time to create, and we need to be patient…”
Huey Lewis and the News sang the Star-Spangled Banner at the first Twins game I ever attended. It was rad.
Is that Mark McGwire or James Hetfield? Maybe he should be preforming at the Arenabowl.
I suppose Jon Bon Jovi can only play so many Arena League events per year. Man do I feel bad for the New Jersey fan base having to listen to nothing but Bon Jovi during the game.
Who’s that ugly white guy with Martin Lawrence?

I did an intership in Minot, ND for a summer. Town is great. The stripclubs there have mini casinos in them, you can buy off sale beer from the bar after they close, and if you still have a half a drink when they kick people out, they give you a togo cup on your way out the door. The best part of that summer was Seeing Huey Lewis and the News perform at the State Fair that summer. Why did I go? Cuz ‘It’s Hip to Be Square’. Man, now ‘I wanna go back in time’.

You forgot /[redacted]’s pants.
Traded college roommate my Huey Lewis and the News Greatest Hits album for Barenaked Ladies “Rock Spectacle.” Best CD trade I’ve ever made, beating out getting Counting Crow’s “August and Everything After” for a Magic: The Gathering card.
Caption for that picture?
The Shocker: Ur doin it wrong.

You don’t say.
You can’t beat the ND State Fair for musical acts. This year? Matchbox Twenty!
