Thanks, big oil, for the cheap baseball tickets

gasdeal_0602.jpgAs gas prices vault towards $4/gallon, we’d like to stop for just a moment and say, “Thanks.” See, we saw a bumper sticker on the way into work that said gas prices were $1.46 per gallon when President Bush took office (also available in overpriced T-shirt form). Adjusted for inflation, and assuming that’s going from 2001 when he actually took over, that works out to more like $1.77 in today’s terms. But still, it’s more than doubled. And if you like baseball — specifically the Twins — that is just awesome. The more you suffer at the pump, the better off you are at the Dome because of the Tanks from the Twins promotion. Yes, you can now save $3.98 on lower reserved and upper club seats, the same as the national average for gas this week. But the number changes every Monday, and it could get even higher as we head into the summer vacation months. If ever there was a way to make ridiculous prices and a short-sighted energy policy work for you, this is it. Hey, and if gas prices hit $21 per gallon — not expected, but anything is possible! — you’re sitting in Upper Club for free.
