“He Hate Me” to be here tomorrow?

hehateme.jpgSometimes it pays to open up random e-mails. Our friend Li’l Dice received one yesterday, then passed it along to us. The gist: a commercial for a cereal product is being filmed at Edison High School in Minneapolis today, tomorrow and Friday this week, roughly from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. each day. That wouldn’t be nearly as exciting if not for:

1) The makers of the commercial need extras to be a “crowd” that cheers people on. There’s no pay involved, but …
2) The people involved are an eclectic football bunch. Today’s players were reportedly Barry Sanders and Billy Johnson (White Shoes, we assume); tomorrow is Desmond Howard and Rod “He Hate Me” Smart; Friday is Ickey Woods and LeRoy Butler.

We drove past Edison right around 11:30 today after shooting the latest installment of Good Sports (it’s going to be awesome, by the way) and while we didn’t see any players, we did see cameras and other evidence that a commercial was being shot. So it does appear to be legit. Sadly, we will be out at the U.S. Open the next two days and won’t be able to investigate. If anyone has some free time and wants to do a guest post (and maybe even be in a commercial), we recommend you head over to Edison and give us a full report.

Either way: how great does this sound?

What is Barry Sanders doing with that rag tag group of players. I think he sometimes forgets that he is one of the top 5 RB’s of all time. Playing for the Lions will do that to you though.

Placing the apostrophe in front of the second L is a pretty old school move. It’s like “Li’l Abner” old school. I commend your friend Li’l Dice on his/her choice to buck the more contemporary trend of placing the apostrophe after the second L, like Lil’ Kim. It makes him/her sound more sophisticated.

Agreed, CS. And it actually justifies the use of an apostrophe. The whole point of the apostrophe is to indicate that you know you’re leaving letters out, but you’re doing it for pronunciation’s sake. Lil’ Kim, et al, just look dumber for the wear.

I’m sorry, I know this thread is done and gone, but I was reading the Rod Smart link. In an odd twist of relevancy to other comments, this was towards the bottom:

His nickname in high school was “Lil’ Runt.”

That is all. I will now follow standard RB procedure and only comment on the most recently active post.

I hope the next installment of Good Sports involves the 22nd Avenue Station. Hell, when in Northeast, do as the Northeasters do!
