RandBall Commenter Draft: At-bat music
Posted on June 25th, 2008 – 1:13 PMBy Michael Rand
Considering the rousing success of the all-sports fantasy draft the other day, we thought we would try another list. As was the case with the other one, this is a blatant ripoff of the idea started by the good people at Kissing Suzy Kolber. It’s a copycat league. What can we say? Today’s list: At-bat music. Yes, we made a preliminary pass through this a couple of months ago. But this is a deep topic that needs some serious probing. Um. So yeah, we’d like to take Lifter Puller’s Roaming The Foam as our primary song. You’d best be prepared for plenty of other picks from us in the comments. And you’d best be prepared to tangle with Brendan Harris if you want to steal “Cherry Pie” by Warrant.

The Stroke, Billy Squier
Do we have to number these? If so:
2. The Swish, the Hold Steady
3. Bootylicious, Destiny’s Child
Pardon me, 2. The Swish, the Hold Steady
Fine, I’ll conform rather than risk losing my pick.
4. The Stroke, Billy Squier
Why is it that all the songs I want to pick seem more appropriate for Joker?
5. Enter Sandman, Metallica
6. Liberty by the Minnesota State Sacred Harp Singing Convention.
7. Son of a Bitch - Nazareth
8. Suck My Kiss, Red Hot Chili Peppers
Joker wanted me to post for him.
8. Teen Spirit, Nirvana
10. Safety Dance - Men Without Hats
10. Hash Pipe, Weezer
Ring of Fire, Johnny Cash
Re: pick #7
the name is actually “Hair of the Dog” by Nazareth
13. Fat Man In The Bathtub - Little Feat
13. Loser, Beck
14. It Takes Two, Rob Base and DJ EZ Rock
15. In A Gadda Da Vida, Iron Butterfly
And I’m not getting in the box until they play the whole thing. F.U. Brian Runge, you attention loving ass.
16. Freak on a Leash, Korn
Someone fire up the roughkat signal, otherwise Creed and Mike Bolton will go unmentioned…
19. Donkey Riding - Great Big Sea
(coming to the State Sept 12!)
Please note that all postings by me in this thread are for my own amusement only, and have nothing to do with the Proprietor’s topic. A disclaimer that I could post for pretty much everything I write here.
Sustained white noise, gradually increasing in volume. I think it would throw off batters when it suddenly cut out post warm-up. A Shepard Tone would also work. I would wear ear plugs.
20. Cotton eyed Joe, Various Artists
I wish they would start playing this at sporting events.
Fasola - I think I’d lean more towards The Old Black Rum. Or Mari-Mac. Either would work as long as it was the live version.
So Whatcha Want, Beastie Boys
21. Let There Be Rock, Drive-By Truckers
22. “The Star-Spangled Banner,” just to confuse the audience with a ’should I be standing right now?’ dilemma. (I totally stole this joke from a friend.)
Toonces - all my picks are on the assumption that the crowd would be hip (or square) enough to sing along. Definitely Mari-Mac, and I could see The Old Black Rum working, too.
“Through the Fire and Flames” - Dragonforce
23. Faith, George Michael
23. Sweet Child O’ Mine, Guns N’ Roses
Bastards of Young, Mats
Mother, Danzig
Face to Face - Sevendust
I would like Stu to go back to his earlier comment and describe this ‘roughkat signal’ ala Batman. I imagine something difficult to render in silhouette, but unmistakably disgusting.
That said, I’d the rest of you to stop naming songs I’ve never heard of. You already do that to me with most of your ’sports’ references, so just back off okay? I mean, ‘Dragonforce’? And Star Spangled what now? Be nice, dumb it down, I’m not impressed with your knowledge of things I do not know.
Beat me to it, Clarence. I’ll draft for need and take Highway to Hell, AC/DC.
muxhut: You’re probably better off not knowing about Dragonforce. I linked to a video though, just to show the ridiculousness…
Just because I would be difficult and confusing to the crowd, I would probably go with a rotation of:
1) Big Pimpin’, Jay-Z
2) Personal Jesus, Johnny Cash
3) Feur Frei, Rammstein
4) Somewhere Over The Rainbow, Israel Kamakawiko’ole
5) Ready, Steady, Go, Paul Oakenfold
6) Main Theme from The Last of the Mohicans, The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards
And just to really offend anyone left, go with Fack, by Eminem.
Chimaira - Satan’s Wizard
Right Hand On My Heart, the Whigs
More Human than Human (with extended intro) - White Zombie
That’ll make everyone uncomfortable…
Great call, David.

My apologies to roughkat, but if he drafts Creed and Michael Bolton then muxhut is correct. The signal must have been giant tampon.
Matt Tolbert apparently lost a bet and drew “Zombie” by The Cranberries… Shakes me to the core about what the rules of song picking should be.
If anyone lost a bet for their at bat music, it’s Brian Roberts of the Orioles. I have no idea what the song is, but it’s some country love song.
Brian Roberts at bat music via the Orioles fan boards:
“We All Make Mistakes” by a band called Submersed
Shimmy Shimmy Ya - ODB aka Big Baby Jesus aka Dirt McGirt
The Humpty Dance, Digital Underground
Shimmy Shimmy Ya - ODB aka Big Baby Jesus aka Dirt McGirt
He also changed his name to the “Old Dirty Chinese Restaurant”
“Rumpshaker” by Wreckx-N-Effect
“Homeward Bound,” Simon & Garfunkel.
Cant Truss It, Public Enemy. Bring it in on the “here come the drums.” Not that the lesson in slave history wouldn’t get the crowd fired up. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CLhuv-kLj_I
The music that kicks in when you have RISP in Baseball Stars 2 on the NES.
Anarchy in the UK, Sex Pistols
Ryan Spilborghs of the Rockies has “Thriller” as his. I think it’s great, but I want to see him do the dance before he gets in the box.
Like a Virgin, Madonna
Ryan Spilborghs’ name reminds me of Senor Spielbergo
“Banquet”, Bloc Party
Birth, School, Work, Death, the Godfathers
In the Air Tonight, Phil Collins, all the way to the glorious drum solo.
“All my Ex’s”, John Daly
I Believe in a Thing Called Love, The Darkness
The Entertainer - Ye Olde Artist
Screenwriters Blues, Soul Coughing
1st of the Month- Bone-Thugs-N-Harmony.
I dedicate this one to my homey SCH.
My Humps, Black Eyed Peas
Song 2, Blur
/Koskied
My Humps, Alanis Morrisette.
Thanks for the shoutout, jama. Sophomore year of high school, that was my favorite CD.
Kip’s wedding song at the end of Napoleon Dynamite.
Rockaway Beach, the Ramones
Crazy Train - Ozzy
Still love technology is the winner. And just three minutes before the new post. Just under the wire.
I don’t get a vote but to me StraigtCashHomey’s 2:27 is the leader in the club house.
Another Joker song
“When I think about you I touch myself”- Cindy Lauper
If we’re going there
I want “Rosie” by Jackson Browne

I bet he celebrates Michael Bolton’s entire collection.
Endorphine Machine - Prince
The Wolves chances of doing the right thing tomorrow.
“Free Falling”- Tom Petty
Business Time - Flight of the Concords
Sorry for being MIA. I was busy saving an important Friend of RandBall blog. Hopefully Stu will leave Brandon alone now.
jama-
“I Touch Myself” was done by the Divinyls. For knowing that, As per RandBall rules, I will forfeit all of my draft picks and escort myself out of the building.
I apologize, “I touch myself” was recorded by many artists including Blondie and the Divinyls. Joker just prefered the Cindy Lauper version do to her great hair and unbelievable body.
world of b: fixed!
Stand Up and Shout, Steel Dragon
The greatest guitar riff ever written, “Lavaging Expectorate of Lysergide Composition” by Carcass.
Not kidding.
Either that or “Never Gonna Give You Up” by Rick Astley.
(I’m in shock no one has said that yet. How’d you like to Rick Roll the entire ballpark every time you come to bat? Now that I think of it, that would make even better music for a closer.)
Honestly: I’d use this.
Not QUITE on topic, but as a pitcher, I would always have loved “Bad to the Bone” by George T. as warmup music…
More songs for Joker:
She F*****g Hates Me - Puddle of Mudd
Love of a Lifetime - Lifehouse
It Ain’t Me, Babe - Johnny Cash
U + Ur Hand - Pink
Playing on the video board:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jZnUI8tfKjg
And two more for my rotation:
The F****d Up Song - Limp Bizkit
A Lap Dance Is So Much Better When the Stripper Is Crying - The Bloodhound Gang
How does my a– taste? By Shaq Fu
“I’m Too Sexy”
Or has A-Rod already taken that one?
Fu Schnickens “What’s Up Doc? (Can We Rock?)”
“Break Stuff” - Limp Bizkit
“Hustlin’” - Rick Ross
“The Boss” - Rick Ross and T-Pain
“Kiss Kiss” - Chris Brown and T-Pain
“Gotta Stay Fly” - Three 6 Mafia
I’ll play the Joe Mauer card and pick mostly rap music when I am very, very white.
