Thursday edition: Ultimate sports traitors

Just a reminder that we can still use more Great Debate submissions to load into the hopper for Vacation: The Sequel next week. We have a tale of gluttony and not much else lined up so far. So: email us with your 300ish-word submissions and we’ll make your Interweb voice be heard. And now: Ty Webb, previously known for his work ripping our choice in movies, wants to spark a debate about sports traitors. Ty?
Mr. Rand — Brilliant idea. Let the inmates run the asylum. This could work. Here is the topic that I would like to see discussed amongst the likes of Stu, Dave, Jama, and the gang: Name the most painful example of being a “traitor” in sports.
The obvious national example would be when Johnny Damon went from the Red Sox to the Yankees and inspired the clever t-shirts that read, “Looks like Jesus, Throws like Mary, Acts like Judas.” But there have to be some more local examples something along the lines of Chris Darkins and Darrell Thompson being cheered during their years with the Gophers only to be drafted by the Packers. Granted, neither one of these guys made it big as pros (and neither had a say in where they went), but they could have been fan favorites for years, only to be members of the hated rivals the next year.
I think that we could look at promising high school athletes in the metro that choose to play for the Badgers (Kammron Taylor, etc.) or Packer fans could look at the signing of Darren Sharper (or Ryan Longwell) as an example of this.
So how about it: All-time sports traitors, both local and national. Great Debates. Go.
