Tuesday (Ricky over Brett) edition: Wha’ Happened?

davis.JPGThe Brett Favre saga has dipped to a new low. Yes, it’s lower than when he appeared on Fox. Yes, it’s lower than when only a handful of people showed up at a rally to support him. Yes, it has taken a taken a tumble into special depths because of two revelations: while no team seems to want Favre — at least not a team that the Packers would trade him to — there is a team (the Clippers) that wanted Ricky Davis (and Kwame Brown for that matter). The enigmatic NBA journeyman guard signed a one-year deal with the Clippers. We know! Mark Madsen can’t believe it, either. Favre, meanwhile? Let’s take a snippet from the linked Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel story:

The Packers have been calling all over the National Football League trying to acquire something of value for the Hall of Fame quarterback, whom they no longer want. But a source close to the trade process said the team had nothing even close to an offer it would consider. An executive in personnel for one of the teams contacted by the Packers’ personnel department summed up the depressing message that Ted Thompson has been hearing.

“We’re not interested; he’s not the right fit for us,” the scout said. “I’d love to have him in another situation but we’re not Brett Favre away from being really good.”

Just wait until Aug. 5 when Favre is traded for a sixth-round pick — the same as Troy Williamson.

What else?

*Our guy Joe C. reported yesterday that the Twins are interested in reacquiring LaTroy Hawkins. Whaddya think?

*There’s probably a better way to get beer.

*A blogger suggests the Angels should trade K-Rod. Um, no.

*Tim Donaghy meets his fate today. Sorry, we forgot his full name: Disgraced NBA Referee Tim Donaghy.

*Also, don’t forget about our new feature: The Commenter Talker Of the Day. Send us your best work by 2 p.m. every day.

If we insist on still talking about Baby Farvay then here we go…

Assumption #1: The Packers either believe that Aaron Rogers is the better QB (doubtful) or that it’s time to start getting Rogers ready. Given the latter, the Packers must be prepared for this to be more of a rebuilding year and they probably won’t be making it back to the Conference Championship.

Assumption #2: The NFL is a business. That’s why it’s time for the Packers to rid themselves of Farvay and begin to move on so that the franchise can shine in years to come.

So why the [redacted] does it matter who they trade to? Why is it a business in once instance and a big ball of emotions and feelings the next? TT wants it both ways. Someone please explain to me rationally why the Packers can’t trade inside the division this year.

That said, I don’t want Farvay. Let the Bears have him. Then they can be the Baby Bears and the Muppet Babies can be their new theme.

RE: The Hawk. If I can quote Brandon, “I support this trade in full if it will allow us to get rid of Adam Everett or Mike Lamb.”

And if Rick Anderson can make him look like he looked the last time he was a Twin, I say we buy him a nice steak dinner.

You squeezing Brett Favre into every storyline is making me sad.

What’s the over/under on the number of triple doubles Davis will have against his own team this season?

Those two could star in the new Odd Couple.

MM: Rick, did you drink my milk?
RD: Am I suppose to put water on my cereal?
MM: My mom sent me cookies and now we have no milk!
RD: [Redacted] off. And give me those cookies.
