Name: Quincy Lewis

Claim to Fame, Minnesota: was the invaluable sixth man for the Golden Gophers’ 1997 Final Four team. Anyone else remember that he was named the CBS/Chevrolet Player of the Game in the victory over UCLA? I would have guessed Courtney James myself. Speaking of whom, Lewis actually went to class and earned his degree as the link above notes, which sets him apart from James and most every other Gopher of that era. Sigh.

Claim to Fame, Everywhere Else: was Utah’s 1st-round pick in the 1999 NBA Draft and played three seasons for the Jazz before heading overseas. To cement his “one of us” credentials, he did play for the Wolves in the 03-04 season.

Where He Is Now: playing for CB Bilbao Berri in Spain with fellow 1999 1st-rounder Frederic Weis. Sid says he also played in the Pulley League this summer. (Note: if the Strib search engine is any indication, Lewis appears in Sid’s Jottings with the same frequency that Super Rookie appears in other media outlets.)

Glorious Randomness: Lewis graduated from Parkview Arts and Science Magnet High School in Little Rock, Arkansas, a distinction he shares with “renowned international recording artist” Pacovelli, who has referred to himself as “The World’s Most Erotic Music Artist.” Clearly, the debate over who will provide Mike Redmond’s at-bat music ends here.
