The Friscalating Dusklight: Stories, suggestions, etc.
Posted on August 8th, 2008 – 4:00 PMBy Michael Rand
Dear readers, it is time once again for the Great Baseball Road Trip. We leave tomorrow on a one-week jaunt (the ninth consecutive year we’ve gone on such a trip), with several destinations: two Royals/Twins games, five minor league games and a Tigers game. The daring itinerary includes a day-night, multi-city double-header. Crazy! So we obviously ask you for your best road trip stories, as we like to do. Also, any suggestions for what to do in Louisville, Indianapolis, Fort Wayne and Beloit, aside from watching baseball and attending certain museums, would be welcomed. Lastly, we will take any commenter talkers and guest posts you can throw our way next week (Brandon, you have already received your COW orders); we’ll be posting at least once a day Monday-Friday from the trip, which should be awesome. Internet access on most days will cease around 9 a.m. as we get up and drive to the next place. We know one thing: If we don’t win a tire race (picture, last year, Las Vegas), this year will be considered a failure. Good night, and good luck.

After you say something’s going to be awesome, you’re supposed to say, “Trust me,” Rand.
P.S. Have a nice GBRT.
We were driving to Georgia, through Wisconsin… our first 2 mistakes. It started lightly snowing, when my truck did a 180 and slid into the ditch avoiding several road signs. A semi proceeded to loose control and headed our general direction. He over corrected and went through the center ditch. (Good for us.) We made it out easily enough, but as we (slowly) drove along, a truck speeding behind us lost control and flipped into the ditch. Another jeep slid off and into a tree. You may notice a theme.
Another reason why I hate Wisconsin!
Going ahead with the Randball calendar idea, could we get Erin Andrews on the cover? I’d love to look at her “insights” and “in-depth coverage” every day.
In Indianapolis if you are into monuments be sure to check out Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Monument located in the city center, I am told the city has the second most monuments out of any U.S. city behind only D.C.
Rand, if you don’t have one already, get an I-Pass so you can just fly through tolls in Illinois and Indiana. It’ll save you a bunch of time and cash. Make sure to get a good whiff of Gary, Indiana as you pass through, too!
Don’t run out of gas in Gary, Indiana.
If you do, try to find a way to fill your tank and pay without rolling down the windows or unlocking the doors ![]()

I believe what you meant was, “I’d show her some in-depth coverage”
/slapped by everyone
What’s the deal with Lispy McLisperson calling the Vikings game? He’s driving me crazy! Couldn’t they find someone without a speech impediment?
“Coming up: the Scheehawks and the Vikingsch!”
Dave MN MIGHT be going to hell, but he’ll amuse everyone.
+1 to you, sir.
Try and stay at the historic Brown Hotel in Louisville. You can get good rates online. They have a ton of Sonic fast food joints there. And strip clubs - but very very nasty ones.
You may also be there during the Kentucky State Fair, which is good to go to because it pales horribly in comparison to the Great Minnesota Get Together and will make you feel all superior-like.
