Messing around or not (yet it has to be said even the best swimmers are deadly slow compared to elderly power walkers) that 4 x 100 meter race, particularly the last leg was awesome !! Especially getting the World Record and beating the loud mouth Frogs !!

But, the sport I find most appealing (and obnoxious at the same time) is women's beach volleyball. First off, if I hear the name "Misty May" spoken so often I will scream.

But, that's not what bugs me. And I'm surprised the very few women bloggers on this site haven't chirped in on this. The issue is the men face the same coditions ..rain, sun, heat etc..but wear the standard middle school costume, gym trunks and a T-shirt.

Not so the women who set Feminism back 20 years by wearing those itty bitty t.tty bikinis and why ? Some cheap titillation for the cameras ? They don't look 1/2 bad though most look like boys but those cheezo skin suits are a little over the top...

PETER, PAUL, AND PAULOS:

" we are slow as molasses in the water being, in essence, land animals just messing around."

LOL! Best one I heard all week!

BTW -

I'm sure man Randballers - even those outside of the Kingfield/Tangletown Prison - have notice this amazing VIKING'S ACCESS!! commenter. His moniker is SEMHYR RETSUR (why didn't Dave MN come up with that one?) and his link is to here:

I remember talking w/a couple of Strib employees, back when the rag was starting to delve into the online/blog world - but none of the conversations envisioned these kind of guys.

FIRE INTERNET!!

I always loved the swimming events but always found myself annoyed by the coaches strolling the pool lengths as they ostensibly yelled to their charges. But then it hit me. These coaches are revealing for the cameras that these swimmers by any measure other than aquatic measure are dreadfully ...slow.

Take a fast race like the 100 free where the record stands at about 48 sec. That translates to little less than walking speed (the math is easy) and when you think of it, we have very small hands in terms of sq. inches and the same can be said of our legs and esp. feet. Makes sense then we are slow as molasses in the water being, in essence, land animals just messing around. But, just let some dolphin run in the (land) 100 meter. Ha!

"Lead foot" Jackson wasn't all thaat bad but Vikes still will be also rans esp. after Prime Time gets rehurt...

As for the Olympics, I have 2 questions/observations...a) I know why the swim team wears their speed suits, but why does the women's beach volleyball team wear their nudesuits ? I know they have those NLNTs (nice legs no tops) bodies but watching those cylindrical beanpoles is ghastly.

Why not try a new suit some day...like something that doesn't screamm dyslexic ? and b) why do so many American men sport those coarse sandpaper gearhead haircuts. So few other males from other countries look so asinine it makes us all look like GED gangsters..

No need to worry, I purchased my Rage tickets this morning. Let's just hope I can avoid the tear gas.

Biff Henderson is always A+. That slow montage of his training regiment killed me.

That "6-4-3" call from Skip Carey was great.
