The Friscalating Dusklight: Bolt, Phelps, Team USA
Posted on August 21st, 2008 – 5:00 PMBy Michael Rand
We’ll leave a controversial day with nothing but questions:
1) Who had the more remarkable Olympics: Usain Bolt or Michael Phelps (and would your answer be the same if Bolt was the American and Phelps the non-American)? (Question via J. Shelman).
2) Through the ups and downs, highs and lows, what overall grade would you give the U.S. to date in these Olympics?
Happy trails and viewing. We have many more Meaningful Home Runs to tabulate, taking one day off Brandon’s life with each player assigned a number.

1. Phelps has had the more remarkable olympics. Bolt would have had to win the 400, 110 hurdle, 4×200, 4×400, and 400 hurdles for it to be as impressive as Phelps feat.
2.The loss in softball hurt a bit, and the performance in track events have not been great. the gymnastics, volleyball and swimming performances have all pretty good. I would give the U.S.a B overall.
No love for tonight’s minor league draft? No respect…
Phelps had the most “memorable”, but good as Phelps is, Bolt is an absolute freak of nature, so young, so tall for a sprinter. If this guy could stand the contact (he can’t) can you imagine him on the Vikes giving Jackson the ultimate deep threat if Jackson could even lead this guy. Phelps and Bolt. Once more proving you have to be a freak now to win in any sport…
Yes, but if he really was in purple, P3, all you would be able to talk about is how likely he would be to get hurt due to his running style.
How can you say Bolt is a freak of nature and not say the same thing about Phelps, he did break 7 world records.
1. Bolt did just absolutely crush the competition. Phelps didn’t always, but then again they just kept emphasizing the 17 or whatever races he had to swim in 8 days. I give Phelps the nod for longevity, work ethic and humility. Not so much digging Bolt’s mugging for the camera. I like my sports start understated (go MB3).
2. I’d go with a B, too. Some major choking in track, and for God’s sake, please tell them to stop pulling a Corey Hart. They look ridiculous.

There’s no way for us to follow along is there?
We’ll just wait to see the rosters at some point tomorrow.
The draft is done. Everyone hates their teams. It’ll be awesome.
Raise your hand if your six-round draft pick in the Randball Triple-A League (aka Randball Lite) was a guy set to go under the knife.
:raise:
Aw, crap!
Raise your hand if you drafted a guy (not even with your last pick) who is owned in 5% or less of Yahoo leagues.
(hangs head as hand raises)
I had to dip from the draft after the 8th round or so. I now know that was not a good idea. 2 TE’s? Who does Yahoo think I am, Dave MN?
* Make that 3 TE’s that Yahoo decided to draft for me, even better. On a side note does anyone want to trade a #1 WR for a awesome TE?
jama: I am Yahoo.
Just like I said in March, the Twins are going to be in the thick of the pennant race in August and will rely on Torii Hunter missing a shot by Nick Punto to win a huge road game.
