Brad Childress trailing “other guy” 94 to 6% in polls

Posted on September 15th, 2008 – 12:39 PM
By Michael Rand

childress.JPGJust a quick noon-time fact to chew on before we get to Clarence Swamptown’s pizza infused Commenter Of the Week post: Brad Childress currently has a 6 percent approval rating as coach of the Vikings, with votes being cast by nearly 3,000 fans on ESPN.com. That puts him tied for last with Rams coach Scott Linehan, a former Vikings assistant. As for the 6 percent voting for Childress? Hey, at least we know what the current staff is doing instead of designing innovative pass plays.

Update: As bad as it has been for Childress, he apparently is doing better than manager Ned Yost, who was fired today with the Brewers tied for the NL wild card lead.

6 percent approval rating

After ditching the StraightCashHoney to watch the game and drink beer yesterday, then being an irritated shell of myself upon its completion, Childress has me beat right now.

Even Brad’s family says, “he must go.”

His wife later said, “he’s also predictable in bed.” His son said, “My dad never had much of a personality, and what he had was bad, all bad.”

A positive vote came in from a T. Jackson, which said, “he a gud cooch. Me likes him.” (It should be noted that T. Jackson’s vote was skipped into the ballot box because the delivery was three yards short.)

A Z. Wilf asked, “is a 6% approval rating good?” Then, he pissed off a bunch of people in Anoka county.

I would say he’s also 6% more popular in Minneapolis than Ed Hochuli is in San Diego today. Wow.

I can’t get over this. Are the Twins really going to name the stadium Target Field? And they’re signing a 25 year deal? This has bad move written all over it. Has anyone seen the figures for the naming rights?

AZGopherGirl says:

Entry into Access Vikings? Sounds like a job for Jon “The Martyr” Marthaler. Though now that I look at it, Childress has the highest vote totals of any NFL coach. AV has to behind that kind of rabid fanaticism, don’t they?

newbie says:

September 15th, 2008 at 1:22 pm

At least he is not pandering to the whims of the fickle fans that hate Jackson after one play and then 2 minutes later hate him even more.

Also, FYI: standing in line at the concessions during a Vikings game, behind an attractive girl, is not the time to yell “I wanna see some Booty”… when I clearly was referring to the quarterback.

In case any of you were wondering Lovie Smith is receiving a 39% approval rating. This after having a 85% approval rating last week. I guess all that beer will give you a little memory loss.

Lovie Smith > Brad Childress

Interesting (but not surprising) to note the direct correllation between coache’s approval rating and team record. I don’t count Wade Phillips, since the cowboys haven’t played yet, but I’m guessing after they win, he’ll receive a bump.

I think Childress would buck the pattern. Even if the Vikings were 2-0, I don’t think the passionate fans* over at AV would let him get above 30-35%.

Speaking of percentages, I understand things around here 23% better now that I finally saw The Big Lebowski on Friday night. Luckily I put the kids to bed first.

This was after I got to see a re-broadcast of the Drew Pearson Push-off on the NFL network. It was an eventful Friday night at our house, to say the least.

Joe says:

Despite T Jax inability to speak proper english (I want to know what his score was on the wonderlic test. No way he is more intelligent than Vince Young) and complete a pass longer than 8 yards without a WR getting the YAC’S this loss rests 100% with childress. He drafted him, he elected him to start, and he is the idiot who schemed the supposive “KAO.” If you are plus in the turnover column, display and solid defensive effort and rush for over 160 yards in the game there is no reason outside of coaching and play calling why you lose a game in the NFL.

Sean says:

September 15th, 2008 at 2:40 pm

FIVE in a row to Green Bay??? Come on now! There really is some questionable play calling going on and it’s all been lack luster thus far. I dont think TJack has any confidence and it shows in the passing game. The guy cant throw, and Childress cant make the call to put the right guys in place to help this team win. It’s Childress’s ego and his inability that will kill this season for the Vikes. He needs to wake up or get out and take TJack with him. Enough already!!!!

Going Yard says:

September 15th, 2008 at 2:44 pm

…and I just read an article about the return of Steve Smith from his 2 game suspension. He will easily have a huge game against the Vikes weak pass D.

6% rating for the Chiller???? Someone must have been confused about this voting process.

The “KAO” MUST be revised to “KAOT” Kick-a$$-out-of-town”

Joe says:

The freaking bears and kyle orton beat the Colts. how can we not? When crappier teams with 0-2 records have coaches with higher approval ratings than Chilly than it shouldnt take a smart business man like Ziggy to realize he needs to give him the boot.

Going Yard says:

Dear Zygmunt,

You came to town and purchased yourself a stripped down NFL team from a used car salesman. Over 2 seasons, you’ve spent and spent and asked your business partners for more and more money to “upgrade” this team to be a winner, with the same or worse results. This team, like the Twins, are only a few pieces away from being great. Make the move Zigi, a midseaason change isn’t an ideal situation, but continuing on the same path is worse. Cut your losses. Fire Childress, promote Mr. Frazier for the interim, and give Mr. Jackson a clipboard for the year. Start Frerotte while looking for another Veteran. Look what Milwaukee did today with the firing of their baseball manager!! It CAN work.

Stone Gaijin says:

Brad
Childress 5%
Team: Minnesota Vikings
Record: 0-2
Votes: 3,105 Colts 18, Vikings 15
ElsGolf: The Vikings never should have lost that game. They dominated. They got so conservative in Colts territory because they were scared of Jackson making a mistake and settled for 5 field goals and let the Colts hang around. The Vikings should have won that game by 20 points.
LooseChange25: Childress needs to go. Wherever he goes, he should take Jackson with him. Vote

6%? Wow, alot higher than I’d have thought for a guy who looks like Commandant Klink! And is not as smart as Klink. Tis why I call him Brad Dumbdress.
From the tv, I can’t tell if it is just stupid playcalling or if Jackson seems confused because he knows that the play he’s supposed to call is so lame.
Is it too late to fire this idiot and get Mike Tice back? PLEEEAAASSEEE

indyvike84 says:

George from St. Paul says:

Having a taste for conspiracy theories I must conclude this is a plot by Zygi to move the team to L.A. I can only conlude also that the sportswriters for the strib are in on the conspiracy. The playcalling and quarterbacking have a true synergistic result. If Zygi isn’t planning to move the team to LA then even the most craven observer most call for radical surgery.

Fire him now. Hire Cowher, Shottenheimer or Mariucci tomorrow and start over. Bring in every John Unitas wanna be that ever took a snap from center, get some hotshot out of Canada, heck even scout the Arena league. Can’t be any worse than the doofus the Vikings have wandering around the Metrodome hoping for a miracle to drop into his lap!
