krause.JPGName: Paul Krause

Claim to Fame, Minnesota: the NFL’s all-time leader in interceptions, Krause played safety for the Vikings from 1968-1979. In addition to a record that shows no signs of being broken any time soon, he made 8 Pro Bowls, was named to 8 All-Pro teams, and missed only two games due to injury in his 16-year career. This is why he was selected to the NFL Hall of Fame immediately after the 5-year waiting per … wait, forget that, he played for the Vikings, so he didn’t get in until 1998. The NFL Hall of Fame Selection Committee really needs to get hit by a [redacted] meteor. I’m confident that I’m right about this, though probably not as confident as Jim Marshall and Mick Tingelhoff.

Claim to Fame, Everywhere Else: started his NFL career in Washington, where he finished his rookie campaign with 12 interceptions and runner-up to teammate Charley Taylor for NFL Rookie of the Year honors. They traded Krause to the Vikings for Marlin McKeever and a 7th-round pick. Advantage: Purple. Lest I upset any Hawkeye partisans, I should note that he’s also a member of the Des Moines Register Iowa Sports Hall of Fame.

Where He Is Now: serving on the Dakota County Board of Commissioners. Also, as of March 2007, he’s the owner of Lakeville’s Dairy Delite. I think we have RandBallers in that general area, so please leave your restaurant reviews in comments.

Brush with Fame: my dad took me to Vikings training camp when I was 6 or 7. I was a touch excited, so when we got out of the car I bolted towards the practice field. In my haste, I ran right into some guy’s leg. My dad apologized to the man and told me to watch where I was going. After the man was out of earshot, my dad told me that that leg belonged to Paul [redacted] Krause. I nearly plotzed.

Glorious Randomness: Marlin McKeever and his brother Mike appeared in The Three Stooges Meet Hercules, where they played Siamese twins Ajax and Argo. Like you didn’t know that already.
