Stu’s Huntdown: Dave Gagner

Name: Dave Gagner
Claim to Fame, Minnesota: played for the Minnesota North Stars from 1987-1993, and was with the Stars organ-EYE-zation through 1996. His 404 points puts him at ninth on the list of all-time North Stars point-scorers.
Claim to Fame, Everywhere Else: put in stints with the Rangers, Maple Leafs, Flames, Panthers, Canucks, and most importantly, the Brantford Alexanders of the OHL. While playing for them in 1982-83, Gagner won the Bobby Smith Trophy, which, per Wiki, honors the player “who best combines high standards of play and academic excellence.”
Bobby Smith, of course, was one of the North Stars’ all-time greats, if not a superstar like Brian Bellows. It’s all a circle, man.
Where He Is Now: he’s currently the director of player development for the Vancouver Canucks organ-EYE-zation. In addition, his son Sam plays for Edmonton.
Glorious Randomness: if you’re like me, when you look at your backyard, you expect to see grass, children’s toys, a kiddie pool that should probably be deflated and put away for the season, maybe even a stray college student passed out in his own sick (GO HUSKIES! WOOO!). Perhaps you’re not like me, though, and expect to see a big old hockey rink. Well, today’s your lucky day, Jon Marthaler, as Dave Gagner’s Custom Ice Rinks will help you live the dream! I’m no expert, but I’d definitely look into purchasing a Rink Rover ™ while I was at it. It may look like a John Deere riding mower, but it has a 48” flooding bar and water spreading towel, people! I don’t even know what that is, but it by God sounds awesome.
