williams.JPGBad jokes and outdated pop culture references in bold as we attempt to channel our inner bad sportswriter.

The Matt Millen era officially ended a few weeks ago. But it OFFICIALLY ended yesterday, when new GM Martin Mayhew managed to reverse the trend of so many years by giving up a receiver and getting a first-round draft pick. In case you didn’t see it, the Lions sent Roy Williams and a seventh-round pick to Dallas for a first, third and sixth rounder next year.

A reminder that the shelf life for a running back’s career lasts about as long as disco. Shaun Alexander signed with Washington to be Clinton Portis’ backup now that Ladell Betts is out with a short-term injury. If this was The Jeffersons, Alexander would not be movin’ on up.

Nickname change aside, the Red Sox seem to be having a devil of a time with Tampa Bay.

Seems like Wolves guard Sebastian Telfair has found himself a little trouble with the NBA. And here we thought the run and shoot offense was for football!

Kurt Warner for MVP? OK, but if we’re setting this time machine for 2001, the Backstreet Boys are not invited.

Fasola-link! A week without John Madden? Bam!

You’re out of touch. I’m out of time. Who said that? (Oh yes, it was Hall and Oates, right after they lifted a ton of merch from Casual Corner).
